Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio

The Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio served as Wright's private residence and workplace from 1889 to 1909--the first 20 years of his career. Here Wright developed a new American architecture: the Prairie style. Trained interpreters offer insights into Wright's family life and architectural career. Enjoy guided tours of the museum complex and neighboring historic district seven days a week. Tour details are available on the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust website.

This place where Wright did some of his earliest and best work as a young architectural genius is well worth an hour. Seeing how Wright created a new American architecture among other European style homes shows both his courage to step out and lead in developing a new style and his genius in making spaces that were formative and inspiring for family and coworkers alike.

Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art

Our Museum is dedicated to the art of cutting and polishing stone. We house a world class collection of jade and hard-stone cravings along with an interactive Rock and Mineral exhibit that is great for all ages!

Reviewed By GrandmaLChicagoArea - Chicago Area

Went with a family member to this museum. The top level has many priceless and rare jade carvings. Also quartz and gem stones were displayed. Everything was interesting and beautiful. Lower level had videos to watch and educational displays such as where crystals and fossils are found and how they are formed. Also a very well thought out gift shop is downstairs too. Only small annoyance is my family member did not like the kind of elevator they had, it had glass type walls and was very slow. Other than that it was great.

Brookfield Zoo

216-acre Zoo With Over 400 Species Of Animals.

Reviewed By David I - Oswego, Illinois

I have been to many zoos, but Brookfield never disappoints. I would highly recommend their membership if you live nearby. There is a lot to see so the family has a lot of places to go. I used to have the membership when I lived in Chicago and would just go there to walk around with my daughter. The zoo is educational and relaxing. After leaving the zoo, your kids will be ready for a nap. There is a lot of fun to be had at the zoo!!!

Maywood Park Race Track

Reviewed By brincher - Chicago, Illinois

Maywood Park race track has been around for many many years. My grandfather would take the family here growing up. There are live races every Thursday and Friday nights. Post time (when the races begin) is 7:10 pm. The races last through 10 pm. You can grab a dog or burger, or pay for the buffet which includes meat carving stations, pastas, shrimp, and more. It is well worth the price. You can watch from the outside stands or if the weather is not cooperating, you can view from the inside stands. You can also pay to sit in front of the glass on the inside. This will provide more comfortable seating, a better view, and a tv to watch other races on (or tv shows for the kids). All in all a great way to get out and do something different with the family. Entry is is 2-3 $ depending on the night.

Well oiled machine! People all VERY friendly! Entire experience from time you enter the door to exiting is 1 hour. Pricey, but totally worth it! Give yourself extra time to get there. Coming from the north, it was not easy finding the parking lot in front of iFLY. Our instructor was fantastic - friendly, knowledgeable, entertaining, etc..!! My 10 year old and 13 year old daughters LOVED it (& made the extra $9.95 for the high fly worth it). We had a (just turned) 5 year old and older, "less athletic" people in our group and each one looked to have an equally fun time! HIGHLY recommend!!

There is still time to attend a performance of Joseph at Drury Lane. Just absolutely loved the recreated version of Joseph! We were not disappointed, but we were disappointed to see many empty seats in the audience at the normally busy 2 p.m. Sunday matinee. By all means all the people that stayed home and decided not to attend this production sometimes it is good to step out of the norm and enjoy an updated modern version for 2018!
We have been enjoying plays at Drury Lane since the early 80s and we are just blessed to have this magnificent theatre in DuPage County that continues to thrive!

Hala Kahiki Lounge

Reviewed By Tom M - Scottsdale, Arizona

Hala Kahiki on River Road in River Grove. Strange but great place. No food per se, other than some chips and salsa's. But they have a menu of tropical drinks that must be in the hundreds. Probably not this much variety of cocktails in Hawaii or the Caribbean. All shapes, sizes, flavors. The atmosphere is tropical, like a giant tiki hut. The place was packed on Saturday, with a waitimg line out the door. May have been a coupon out there on Living Social. At least an hour or two wait for a table inside. They have outdoor patio seating, but the weather was a little inclement. Two of us went in, there was one seat at the bar, so my wife sat and I stood. Fun to watch them make the various drinks. We would ask a loit of questions. Were able to chat with the bartenders, even though they were extremely busy with drink making. Met another couple an hour later and were able to get a table in back.

Drinks run the gamut, from ice cream things to an unlimited variety of rum - type drinks. We had mojitos (very good), a volcano (very good), and several others (Zombies, Dreamsicles, etc.). . Reasonably priced for the size and complexity of the drinks. Too many to choose from, many I have never heard of. But I would say all are excellent choices, handmade by some great bartenders. The wait staff and hostess were very friendly and attentive. Well worth the trip, and we would want to go back soon to try some of the other selections. A nice break from the normal bar scene.

Oak Brook Mall is the best mall in Chicago's western suburbs and also one of the best in the Chicagoland area. Without a doubt, this is the place for all the best quality shops around and is a very successful mall. It is an open air outside mall. That's the only thing I don't like in the colder months, but in the nicer weather, it is great! This is the place to find quality and the service is usually consistently very good in most of the stores. Check it out!!

Mount Carmel Cemetery

Reviewed By John A - Ponte Vedra Beach, FL

I wasn't aware Cemeteries were on Tripadvisor's list of places to visit until it popped up after I reviewed a nearby restaurant. Despite the fact that my wife has family members buried here and whenever we are in Chicago we make it a point to visit, it is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places just to reflect on your life. Very peaceful and calming. I enjoy driving around just to look at the artistic designed tombstones and Mausoleums.
