Factoria Romana De Salazones

Reviewed By GWToronto - Toronto, Canada

Garum comes up quite often when you read anything about the ancient Romans. Little did I know when I stumbled upon this small archeological site (which is hidden inside a building on a side street in Old Town) that this is the place they made it! Made from macerated fermented fish flesh and fish guts the Romans used it as a condiment with practically everything (no wonder they were so tough!) I guess the modern day equivalent could be ketchup or sriracha sauce. I don’t know why, but I felt very lucky to see where this mythical stuff was made. The fact that admission is free is even more surprising, just be careful when searching the location because it is easy to walk right by.

We visit Bolnuevo regularly and use the car park in front of the rocks. Sadly some are deteriorating due to weather and silly tourists damage. Well worth a visit.

Playa Castellar

Reviewed By fionak892 - London, United Kingdom

We went for a late afternoon swim in September a couple of times and saw two amazing sunsets while on this beach. The best spot to view the sunsets is at the Island end of the beach near the beach bar and look towards Bolnuevo. As it was a windy day there were surfers out surfing in the sunset. It was lovely to chill out and relax watching a gorgeous sunset
