Dive Point Zanzibar

We are a new, small and friendly dive centre situated on the north-east coast of Zanzibar, in Matemwe, near Muyuni Beach, just opposite the famous Mnemba Atoll. Come diving with us and we will show you the exciting underwater world of Zanzibar.

We booked a snorkeling trip via our hotel and they took us to this place which is on the premises of Sunshine Marine Lodge. We are most thankful for the experience. Everything was perfectly organized and we felt taken care of throughout the trip.
Unfortunately my girlfriend got seasick and of course there has been pills on board and we have been able to continue.
They also organized a perfect lunch for us together with the aforementioned Lodge and it was very tasty.
So in my opinion Sansibar needs more of these collaborations to create tourism aside from the large hotels.
Well done and thx very much!

Matemwe Beach

Reviewed By MosseTurku - Turku, Finland

Are you into beach parties, sufing and water scooters, then look for another beach. Matemwe beach is for relaxing, watching the locals picking sea weed and fishermen sailing their trimarans and for dipping into the sea during high tide (beware of the Sea Urchins) White powder-like sand as long as you can see. Only small resorts and villas hardly visible from the beach. Good for long beach runs or just taking it easy and let your eyes enjoy. No hassle, only a few Masais walking around trying to sell their handicrafts, but never acting aggressive. I really hope that the beach will remain as it is and not turning into what you find elsewhere on Zanzibar.

One Ocean

Come and discover the amazing underwater world and the bottlenose dolphins at the famous Mnemba Atoll in the Indian Ocean. We are the only the dive operator in Zanzibar to have a dive centre in Stone Town on the west coast where we dive the reefs in front of Stone Town and we can do wreck dives and night dives. One Ocean is in-house with the full dive operation and boat launching site at Bluebay Beach Resort in Kiwengwa and Matemwe Beach Village in Matemwe. Inside Ocean Paradise Resort we have a booking office and pool facility! Kiwengwa and Matemwe are located on the north-east coast of Zanzibar close to Mnemba Atoll, with the best diving and snorkelling spot in Zanzibar! Dive packages can be shared among our different locations to give more variety to our divers. We have very high safety and environmental standards.

Booked a very nice snorkelling trip via our nearby hotel. Professional outfit, with plenty of emphasis on safety which is important. 90 US for two, which included equipment & hotel transfers.
Equipment not brilliant but useable. Marine life & visibility both good, but very crowded with lots of other boats. I've had better experiences elsewhere, but can recommend this company if you want to snorkel in Zanzibar.

Eagle Ray Divers

Best place and best group price cheapest boat diveing round.

Reviewed By vesko9 - Sofia, Bulgaria

Eagle Ray Divers is definitely among the best diving centers on the island. They know the best spots and what time to bring you there, and the traditional wooden boat they use lands hand to the authenticity of the experience. The equipment they provided was well maintained and kept (we used their BCDs, regulators and fins), the only downside was that they did not provide computers and we have forgotten ours, but it was not a big deal for such casual diving. There are a few spots close to Mnemba they visit, ask them to avoid the crowded ones and go to the reef that is a little bit further out. Overall the west coast is a much better place for diving (we have tried the east too, so there is a good basis for comparison), and the spots around Mnemba are among the best.

Scuba Libre Diving Centre

Opened in 2005, Scuba Libre Diving Centre is a PADI dive centre. Located right on the Matemwe beach, we run a full service diving centre offering daily dive and snorkel trips, all levels of scuba instruction and quality budget beachfront accommodation.Come and enjoy the many amazing sights the island has to offer such as snorkelling or diving in our magnificent underwater Playgrounds of the Mnemba Atol which is in front of Matemwe beach.

During our stay in Matemwe we looked for a diving center and finally chose the only one belonging to a local owner, which was cheaper than One Ocean, the bigger diving center beside (after negotiation 130 dollars for two dives plus snorkeling for my wife vs 170 dollars). The equipment was satisfactory and the instructor, Emmanuel Odira, kind and professional. I did 2 reef dives alone with him, while my wife did snorkeling with one assistant (only bémol: he did not really speak well English nor French). The dives were exciting, we saw dolphins, turtles, octopuses, morays etc... The instructor knew well the reef and the diving spots, and all security rules were respected. In conclusion, a good diving center managed by local people
