Riverstone Gap

Reviewed By morningsrilanka - Kurunegala, Sri Lanka

Hiking in Riverston Sri Lanka was an unexpected highlight of my journey throughout the island. Riverston is a region best defined by the popular term, ‘off the beaten path’. We drove for several hours, parked in the middle of nowhere and then embarked on a hike. We headed across the river and through the rice fields and farmland. There is minimal signage but luckily we had our guide Lukobanda to guide us up. The hike doesn’t have a specific name according to the locals other than the Riverston Hike. The hike looks out over the Knuckles mountain range and the surrounding highlands. It’s one of the short day trip hikes in the area. The end of the hike ends with a sharp 300m drop, which made for some pretty epic photos. From here you can chill and take in the views of the Thelgamuwa Valley, the terraced rice fields, and the Knuckles mountain range. This spot is called ‘The Worlds End’.The hike is 5km long but not incredibly difficult.

Bambarakiri Ella Falls

Reviewed By mishalstravel - Colombo, Sri Lanka

Bambarakiri ella is a hidden beauty situated in Matale District, Just a 30 minute drive from Matale Town. Trust me once you get there, you'll never want to leave this place. There is a pound form under the waterfall. You can swim and relax here. Water is crystal clear and little bit cold. But you have to be careful because the edge of the pond is slippery. A suspension bridge (Hanging Bridge/Cable Bridge) spanning the falls adds the finishing touch to an already beautiful scene. A nice place to visit with the family (just take care the kids, do not let them roam around alone) and it's advised not to have a bath on a rainy day. Bambarakiri Ella falls an extremely beautiful part of Sri Lanka, and well worth the visit.

The unassuming town of Matale has a stunning Hindu temple. Close to the main road through town, it has that 'wow factor' to it as it soars toward the heavens. It is dedicated to the goddess Mariamman, the most important female deity in Sri Lankan Hinduism. You can get good photographs from the entrance area. The entry fee is modest but the hours are limited.

Ranweli Spice Garden

I visited the spice garden as part of an excursion arranged by my tour operator. The walk and talk through the garden was informative and interesting. We then had the chance of a free shoulder massage before visiting the shop if wished. I had a health problem which I discussed with the guide and he suggested a product which I am very happy to say has helped me and I hope to order more. I can highly recommend it.
