Unfortunately the Museum was closed when I visited the Train Station this trip, however have been there in prior trips. For those who love all Classic Train things and History accordingly, the Texas & Pacific Railway Museum is a 'Must See' - very knowledgeable and friendly 'Proprietors'. Also, wonderful Restaurant in the beautifully restored Ginnachio Hotel there, open for lunch & dinner and cocktails if desired!

Marshall is my Hometown. Although I haven't lived there for many decades, my High School Class Reunions are held every five years since 1995 and I've only missed one. Downtown Marshall is a wonderful place to shop & dine - all very unique and eclectic businesses. The Historical Harrison County Courthouse is the shining centerpiece in the Square, and Farmer's Market and handcrafted items, such as jewelry & purses, as well as specialty food products, such as Caramel PopCorn and Jellies and Jams, are available on Saturdays. Antique & Classic 'Car Shows' are also an additional treat on some regular basis, and Local Music Artists performing in a small 'park' across from the 'Old Courthouse' on some evenings is an extra special treat. The Harrison County Historical Museum is ever a treasure trove for those who love our History (warts & all!) and those 'working' there are highly knowledgeable and very personable folks!

Bear Creek Smokehouse

Nestled here in the beautiful piney woods of East Texas, Bear Creek Smokehouse was born in 1943 when "Hick" & Nellie began curing & smoking their delicious turkeys and hams. Since then, mouth-watering Bear Creek smoked meats have become a holiday tradition in homes across the nation. On November 1st, 2018 the Shoults family opened the doors to a brand new 10,000 square foot General Store that also serves as an Event Center. The store is adorned with relics that the family has collected for years. Bear Creek smoked meats can be found in the store, both frozen and ready to eat. In addition to the meats and dry goods, the store also serves as a gift shop. With a whole section dedicated to bacon products and another focused on all things "Texas", the store is sure to have a little something for everyone. The General Store is very Kid-Friendly. Kids can purchase little bags of feed and hand feed the turkeys and longhorns! Lunch is served in the store daily from 11-1.

Bear Creek Smokehouse is so much more than a smokehouse. The general store is beautiful with so many gift options for everyone of every age or walk of life. It has a very homey feel and you will be personally greeted when you walk in the door. You may be greeted by a turkey, but don't worry, they are harmless. Our daughter had her wedding there in December 2019. It was amazing! They serve full lunches on Wed and Sat. The Shoults have been a staple in theNesbitt community for 7 generations. Do yourself a favor and go see them! We are been going to Bear Creek for years!
