Do the Long Tour! It's amazingly fun! The guides are great, pretty easy to find on Route 6 between Seneca and Marseilles. Will definitely do this again! They do the work clipping in in and out and you don't have to brake! Insane suspension bridges too!

Illini State Park

Camped here recently because Starved Rock campgrounds were full. Came here with my seven year old son. Campsites offer full shade moderate level of privacy. They are close together. Fishing is very accessible. This would be worth checking out if starved rock campsite was full or close to capacity since it seemed pretty quiet when we were there.

Illinois & Michigan Canal State Trail

Reviewed By Jeanne M - New Lenox, Illinois

As part of our bike trip crossing Illinois from the Indiana border to the Mississippi River, we rode our bikes on the I&M trail from Joliet to LaSalle. It was great....picturesque, historic, and mostly well maintained. There are many access points along the way with parking, some with water fountains, some with bathroom facilities.

I've been on the trail several times since and have always enjoyed the experiences. It's quiet and relatively safe, though I'd suggest travelling in a group just because it can be lonely.

We should be proud this trail is available to us.

Washington Square

Ottawa is proud of their Lincoln heritage. This square has a few great sculptures. I especially like this one of Lincoln debating. The area had little rain in weeks so the square itself was rather dusty and dried out.

I also loved the murals that were painted on a number of buildings in downtown Ottawa. Great gift shops also!

A must stop by and see place.

Reddick Mansion and Gardens

Reviewed By JohntheLast - Barrington, Illinois

It was raining so we couldn't hike Starved Rock Trails. Looked up alternate things to do and the Reddick Mansion came up. Nice hour or so spent going through the old mansion. The two staff members were both very knowledgable about the owners, Ottawa history, and Illinois history in general. Learned a lot about the area and what drove it in the 1800s. The furniture is not original (but from the same period) but this does not detract from the sense of going back in time. Worth the time.
