This garden is magnificent and must surely be on the itinerary of any serious gardener or plantsperson. It consists of a series of 'rooms' and pathways, some very restrained in their planting and palette, others flamboyant and colourful. In general the planting is quite dense but not to the detriment of the overall effect and at the time we visited, mid July, flowering was profuse - especially the salvias, phlox, clematis, veronicastrum, lythrums. The planting is complemented by very tasteful garden structures and woodwork - offering many ideas to take home to one's own garden. The plant nursery was excellent and so was the cafe. Do not miss this garden!

Dorothy Clive Garden

This 12 acre garden is a very beautiful Plantsman's Paradise. An exceptionally relaxing place packed with plants of interest throughout the year. A winter garden, laburnum tunnel, alpine scree with pool, rose walk, edible woodland, seasonal borders, large Mediterranean glasshouse and rhododendron filled woodland with waterfall are just some of the highlights you will find here. The garden is both intimate and informal with a network of meandering paths that invite you to explore. Relax in the tearoom with adjoining Terrace lawn that affords some wonderful views into the surrounding Staffordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire countryside. A picnic area is also available. The Dorothy Clive Garden is a registered charity. The garden is expressly intended to be used for the enjoyment and benefit of the public and to support horticultural education. The garden hosts a range of events throughout the year including children's activities. See website for programme.

My wife and I had rejoined HHA again (£77.00....visited 25 properties last year)and decided to visit Hodnet Hall on Sunday 27th and had a most enjoyable two hour stroll around the Gardens (found the tithe barn, dovecote and kitchen garden very interesting).
The garden restaurant (old stable block) is well worth a snack as all the sandwiches and cakes are home made and all the staff/volunteers are very helpful and friendly.
Dogs are allowed on the leads. Open every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday 12.00-5.00 Sunday 2nd April-Sunday 24th Sept

My wife came into the shop a couple of days ago and asked the butcher to a good joint of pork. He was very helpful and cut and strung the joint there and then. We have had the joint today which was a Gloucester Old Spot and it was absolutely delicious. Bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Couldn't be more locally sourced, probably said hello to it on our many visits.

Bought a junior drive for my sons birthday.
Despite 2 members of staff making all possible adjustments to seat etc-he was unable to fully reach the pedals unfortunately! The staff very kindly offered a free ride for the whole family instead.
The whole day was stress free, the members of staff were great, there was a small selection of snacks and drinks available and a photographer on site.
The monster truck ride itself was definitely fun and not your average driving experience, I didn't expect but enjoyed going over cars!.
I will be buying the same junior experience next year once my son has grown a bit!, likewise I'm sure other members of the family would enjoy this also.
It does state that postcode doesn't bring to to exact location which would be my only very minor gripe-been aware of this we allowed extra time and we did need it!

Ride on Miniature Railway on a journey around a Plant Nursery and Gardens with a sense of 'where is it going'.

Reviewed By Greekislandlovers - Southport, United Kingdom

This was one of the most enjoyable visits with my grandchildren anywhere recently. Despite the rain we had a wonderful time, long steam rides around the beautiful Gardens and then a tour around the beautifully laid out Gardens of the nursery. All the Gardens are laid out differently, you are in a totally different world, all the plants are set out whether lovers of shade, sun, etc. so you can see them all in situ, and are available for purchase. It is the loveliest nursery I have ever been to, and the children were fascinated by the miniature train too. Well worth a visit it is lovely.

This club is situated a little way outside the town down a narrow lane. It's well worth tracking down. The course is always in good condition as it drains really well. It's a tough challenge you need to be long and straight! The clubhouse is friendly with good beers and catering.

Buntingsdale Hall

Reviewed By Julie6468 - Grantham, United Kingdom

Visited Buntingsdale Hall with a group of 4 couples (and one child) for a weekend away. We were looking for somewhere quiet with plenty of space to socialise - both of which the Hall provided in heaps! There is a large kitchen diner, a comfortable lounge and a spacious games room with log fire and full size snooker table amongst other games. Following a period of requisition during the war this Hall has been reclaimed by the family of the original owners. They live in the property and are restoring it to its former beauty. They kindly welcomed us into their home and provided us with coffee and a tour of their work so far. The building is full of history and character and soo peaceful. Please note that this property is being restored and not modernised - so do not expect power showers and lifts! The grounds, including a lake are beautiful - if it is peace, quiet and space that you are seeking - Buntingsdale is your place!
