Sri Ugra Narasimha Temple

Reviewed By twinkle906 - India, null

On our way to Mysore from Bangalore, after visiting Doddamallur Krishna temple, we visited this Ugra Narasimha temple at Maddur, just 80 Kms from Bangalore, 20 Kms from Doddamallur. The Deity of Lord Narasimha has eight hands and three eyes. Two hands are tearing Hiranyakashipu, two hands are holding the intestines of Hiranyakashipu, ; other four hands are holding the weapons of the Lord viz. Sudarshan Chakra, Panchajanya (shankha / conch-shell), Pasha & Ankusha. On the right side of the Lord is the Deity of Prahlada and on the left side is the Deity of Garuda. You can also worship Sri Srinivasa, Yashoda and Krishna, the consorts of Lord Narasimha – Srimati Sowmya Nayaki and Srimati Narasimha Nayaki, This is a Great old temple...neatly and well maintained.

Yoga Narasimha temple

Reviewed By E3144TErobertl - Bloomfield Hills, United States

Coming in from the unofficial entrance, I missed the spot where you were to remove/leave your shoes. By the halfway point up, I realized my error and carried my shoes. When I got to the top, I put them in my backpack, but the priest saw me and yelled at me to go back down since I hadn't followed the rules. Still worth it (I did not climb back up) to see. The steps are VERY steep (I'm in reasonable shape and my legs were wobbly by the time I got back to my vehicle). The area around the temple has a lot of monkeys and goats (non aggressive)

Brahmeswara Temple

Reviewed By abhinavalva - Bengaluru, India

Even though the temple is known as Brahmeshwara, the main deity is Lord Shiva. It is a classical 12th century Hoysala architecture style temple. The temple is located next to a huge lake in the Kikkeri village. The hoysalas have built several temples near Hassan-Mandya belt. The temple walls depict various avatars of hindu god Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Even though it is known that Hoysalas were followers of Vaishnavism, they have buit several temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. A must visit for history followers.
