Utheemu Ganduvaru

Utheemu Ganduvaru is the wooden palace in which Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu lived and grew up. It is well preserved and evokes more than any other existing building in the Maldives, the lifestyle of the rich, centuries ago.

Grand Friday Mosque

Reviewed By chathuandishanka - Kalutara, Sri Lanka

The largest mosque in male and built with donations from many Islamic countries. The surrounding area is also very clean and neat and you may spend some time here. It is allowed to enter the premises for everyone including ladies if you are not wearing revealing clothes. This is my first experience inside a mosque as it is not allowed to enter them in most of other countries. Good place to blend in with local culture and get to know a thing or two about them.

Went there for Jummah prayers. Jummah prayer is conducted in Maldivian local language. It was well within walking distance from our hotel. Love the dome of the masjid.

For me it was very interesting experience to see the House of the Maldivian President. It is not allowed to go inside, of course. But it's still a nice sight from outside.

Tsunami Monument

Reviewed By el0dp - Cluj-Napoca, Romania

In 2004 a very strong and heavy tsunami hit the Indian Ocean and took lots of lifes in many countries... This monument is to remember them. Don't expect anything special and it's also kinda far from the downtown. But if you like walking as me, you should visit it.
