Reserva Provincial La Payunia

Reviewed By LucasCasavalle - Buenos Aires, Argentina

We went with Payunia Turismo (payuniaevt.com), they are great, they give you advice and recomendations helping you to fit any activity to your trip, they also give you some discount tickets for the city. To visit the reserve a guide it's required. We booked the whole day at Reserva La Payunia, they pick you up around 8:30 and you can expect to get back around 20:00. The whole route its on a bus with several stops, one of them for eating (because of pandemics you have to bring your own). There are only restrooms at the park rangers cabin, so make sure you take advantage of that. Bring a lot water , and enjoy the beautiful landscapes you won't regret any picture even the blurry ones. After the visit they take you for a free coffe to the Llano Blanco geopark, where you can hire a one hour walk by the mountain or just sit there and relax for a bit before get back to Malargue.

Caverna de Las Brujas

Reviewed By PhilippeW383

This is one of the must-do sites around Malargue. You need to book your tour the day before, and pre-pay part of it, at the tourist info centre in town. The road is paved most of the way, only the last 8 km are not but are driveable with any car. The view along the last 8 km is beautiful, up the desert, always higher and higher until you reach the ranger station. Once there there is a short 15 min. hike worth doing while waiting for the tour to start. You'll see local plants, bushes, and fossils. Beware that the tour inside the cave is not challenging but you should be fit enough to get on your knees a few times to go through the restricted passages, climb ladders, and be able to tolerate the deep silence and at times darkness. That being said it is an experience you will not regret!

Volcan Malacara

Reviewed By Plymouthtraveller8

We took a tour by Karen Travel as this volcan is situated on private property and the owners will only allow tour companies access. the Volcan Malacara blew much of one face of the volcano outwards and so you have the opportunity to walk inside this extinct (hopefully) volcano. This is an excellent tour highly recommended but would be unsuitable for those who are physically impaired as there is a fair amount of scrabbling over rock and walking through some very narrow passages and climbing short ladders until you enter the central core of the volcano. Again a brilliant trip, access is on ripio (dirt) roads and we finished the tour by driving close to the European Space Agencies Radio Telescope.
