This beautiful garden is located in the heart of Makati which is the financial center of Metro Manila. Although it is surrounded by retail shops and restaurants, the garden itself is a tranquil escape from the hustle & bustle of this busy area. Lush plants and flowers ...take time to feed the ducks !

Ayala Museum

No queues, no crowds in our early after lunch visit to the Ayala Museum. Reception at ticket booth was helpful and friendly. We started with the temporary exhibit of Mark Lewis Lim Higgins on the ground floor. It was a fascinating mixture of his paintings in an installation of some kind of rich warehouse, overflowing with silks, ceramics, gold and spices reminiscent of what were exported during the galleon trade. The muted atmosphere, the dim lights, the scent of incense and spices transported us to another time and place! Then we went up to the 4th floor to marvel at the gold collection: objects dug up mainly in Agusan and testimony to the extraordinary skill of local goldsmiths of the 10th - 13th centuries. The excellent ceramic collection of Roberto Villanueva held our attention for its scope, its richness and its beauty. A well-designed diorama, a narrative in a nutshell, traces the history of the Philippines from prehistoric times to the present. It was a well-spent and profitable afternoon!

Ayala Center

The Ayala Center is a 50-hectare commercial development operated by Ayala Land located in the Makati Central Business District in Metro Manila, Philippines. It is comprised of the Greenbelt and Glorietta malls, each with its own shopping and restaurant arcades and cinemas; three department stores, a number of hotels; and the Ayala Museum, showcasing exhibits on Philippine history and art. It is bounded by Ayala Avenue on the east, Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) on the south, Arnaiz Avenue (Pasay road) on the west, and Legazpi Street and Paseo de Roxas to the north. The Ayala MRT Station of the MRT Line 3 serves the area.

If there was one word I'd use to describe anything the Ayala family does, it'd be 'precision.' They've got the detail of this 'Philippines CBD Central' area correct. Footpaths (locally called 'sidewalks') are properly paved with easy disabled access and often are wide, lighting is good and shopping centres like Greenbelt (while far from cheapest in Philippines) are logically laid out. It's good urban design, epitomised by how Greenbelt has a wonderful Catholic Chapel and pleasant greenery with koi fish at its core.
