What to do and see in Madrid, Community of Madrid: The Best Cooking Classes

March 31, 2022 Nobuko Falco

So many of Madrid’s buildings look like castles, you’ll think you’ve stumbled into a fairytale. Even City Hall is astounding, with its white pinnacles and neo-Gothic features. A self-guided architecture tour can begin by the great bear statue in the central Puerta del Sol. Wander by the fanciful Royal Palace before absorbing the natural beauty of Retiro Park, then visit one of the city’s many museums. You could happily cap off each day by nibbling on forkfuls of paella while sipping Spanish rioja.

We had an outstanding class with Eduardo cooking paella, crema Catalan and making sangria. It started with an extensive and informative market tour - Eduardo knows so much, not just about the food being sold (and what we bought) but also gave us background on markets in Madrid, fishing patterns and more. We then went on to make a delicious meal - again learning a lot from Eduardo and having the chance to get to know him as well. The space is beautifully put together for the class too. Highly recommend on a trip to Madrid!

Chef Fernando was wonderful and very knowledgeable the tour of the market provided a good overview of what to look for at the market and understanding what we are buying. The cooking class itself was a lot of fun and social maybe not as hands on as we preferred but learned A LOT from Fernando - not just technique but why we should do what we need to do. After the class we did get a discount on items in one of the shops and even purchased a paella (pan) to take home and we never buy anything on holiday. Can't wait to show off to our friends at home:)

I attended to the Arabic cooking workshop with my husband and it not only was a great afternoon but I also learned to cook different dishes of this gastronomy. After the workshop, we had the meals for dinner… delicious! In addition, María delighted us with typical drinks while we cooked and spoiled us with some extra surprises. María knows how to make you comfortable and she is a passionate about cooking. She denotes a great competence because whatever you ask about food and cooking she answers with great professionalism and solid arguments. She is able to help a lot of people at the same time and to do it with a smile, which I really amazed me. The establishment is perfect for the workshop and everything is taken care of to the smallest detail. Positive, clean and very pleasant environment. I will repeat with friends (I am looking forward to the Italian cooking workshop) and also, I will take it into account when giving presents because it is a success, yes or yes. Maria, thank you for your exquisite attention!

I arranged this class as a team bonding activity for myself and six employees; we were of different ages and nationalities. Booking the class was easy and the hosts also accommodated the different dietary restrictions we had. The class itself was so much fun and a truly intimate experience. Lisa and Noe welcomed us into their home and throughout the evening, not only taught us how to make two different kinds of paella but also about the history and context of the dish and ingredients. They also joined us for the dining portion where we had a chance to learn more about one another with plenty of laughs. Truly the best night of that trip to Madrid and one of the best things I've done while traveling. Thank you!
