Cascate di Vallesinella

We walked past the the Vallesinella falls as part of a hike from the top of the Passo Grosste and back down to Madonna, which is about 15km. I would strongly recommend seeing the various levels of falls this way although it's a full day's hike and requires a modicum of fitness. For those less able to make the hike there is a car park and bus service which terminates about 10 minutes walk from the main falls.
In either case it's a beautiful way to spend an hour or two. The falls are spectacular and set in some pretty wild landscape.

This past weekend we made the hour drive from Molveno to Val di Genova which is a narrow canyon west of the town of Carisolo. After driving along the narrow road we came upon the Nardis Waterfalls that drop over 200 feet cascading down the rock face of the mountain. The canyon is also full of hiking opportunities and great nature sites.

Lago Ritorto

We hiked up to the lake in late April, which turned out to be a great adventure. The challenge started on the road to the trailhead, which was still covered in some parts with snow and required careful driving. The trail itself had numerous patches of snow, mostly thin layers (although they still got our shoes soaked with freezing water), but upper on the mountain we had to cope with longer, steep stretches of knee-deep snow, as well as with some muddy areas. Despite the challenges the walk was fun, and the reward at the top was definitely worth it - the lake was still covered with ice and snow, and the view was just amazing. It took us about 2-2.5 hours to get to the lake, and just over an hour to descend back to the refuge. It was well worth the effort - this hike is highly recommended.

While the staff are friendly and experienced we found that the English children were often left with instructors who spoke very little English and who taught the whole lesson in Italian with the odd 'this way' 'like this' etc with no real instruction or inclusion of our children. Compared to the lessons we have had in Austria they were very disappointing.
