May 22, 2022 Jeremy Dunfee

Lucca's array of wonderfully intact historical sites makes it a must-see stop on any Tuscan itinerary. The medieval city walls still stand—you can hike or bike on top of them. Also visit the Duomo di San Martino and the Roman amphitheater.

Wow, Yesterday, 25/10/2020, we had an amazing meeting with the wonderful couple Tze'ela & Mauro, from Cooking in Toscana. Cooking lessons with participants from all over the world, how to make Ribollita soup. A pleasure to go step by step, in cooking preparations, helpful explanations, and see the stimulating end result, too bad it is impossible to pass a dish through the media. Thank you, Tze'ela & Mauro, waiting for the next zoom cooking lesson and hoping to come to Italy and visit your farm for other cooking classes.

I was extremely pleased with Chef Paolo Monti's Cooking School in Lucca. Not only did I get to make several different pastas and sauces, but an incredible dessert. It is totally hands on with the Chef teaching one how to perfect the pastas, the fresh ingredients necessary to make the phenomenal sauces, the attentive assistance of the staff, and the wonderful meal at the end with the Chef, wonderful food (which we made that day) and a great bottle of wine. The classes are small, personal and wonderful. I would highly recommend this Cooking School, the beautiful setting, hotel and Chef to anyone who truly wants to learn the art of true Italian cooking,

I had a wonderful time in Lucca. I stayed the whole month of November and attended LIS every weekday and went on all the after school outings. Grazie Angelo! It was a fabulous month. The teachers and administrators are really supportive and it is so much fun. The city is really interesting and my homestay host was awesome. I was really lucky to be included in social outings and there was always lots of conversation. The location is excellent also - I went to Florence, Pisa, Montecatini Terme and Cinque Terre on weekends. Being a football fan i also went to a Lucchese FC game with friends I met in Lucca. I guess I should mention that I learned a lot of italian! my language skills and confidence went way up for sure.

I did a 3 day vegan cooking course with Stefania in Lucca, and it was a truly wonderful experience. She arranged everything beautifully. The classes were informal and fun with lots of hands on experience. She taught us not just to follow the recipe but also use our intuition in the kitchen. She also shared lots of tips and tricks from her experience, which was really amazing. In the end, we enjoyed the fruits of our labour by eating everything we cooked in a nice big lunch on all days. The location of my retreat (which was also organised by Stefania) was also amazing- very close to Lucca but at the same time with all the country side charms. I would recommend this retreat to all vegan food lovers. You are sure to have a good time with Stefania and her friends. Remember to give yourself a few extra days before and after the course days to be able to enjoy Lucca and the surrounding areas, as the cooking days are quite busy and full on! Big thanks to Stefania and Gioia di Vivere!

Extra Virgin Cooking Classes

My son and I attended this cooking class together. He gave it to me as a birthday gift. The class was an excellent introduction to Italian cuisine. We started with a short tour of shops and a market to pick up ingredients on the way to our host and chef, Giuseppe’s home. Our host, Giuseppe was very warm and welcoming. Once we arrived we started with prosecco, had olive oil and cheese tastings and then assisted with the preparation of a 4 course lunch. He walked us through each recipe explaining each step and offered some cooking tips as well. It was a small group class of 8 people allowing every person an opportunity to assist with the preparation of the meal. Once prepared we sat down for lunch at a beautifully decorated table enjoying our food and a selection of wines. I would highly recommend this class.
