Finnertys Mills and Museum

Discover all there is to know about a water-powered Corn Mill. The Corn Mill is a recorded monument and an important part of our industrial heritage. Gain an understanding of how oats and wheat were milled in a bygone era.

I stumbled across this gem, an authentic 18th century water-mill in November last year with my brother. We popped in for a look and were amazed at the whole experience. The mill has been lovingly restored buy the current generation of the Finnerty family who can trace their ownership of the mill back over 220 years. When we asked if the mill-wheel and attached machinery still worked, we were treated to a whole lesson in 19th century milling techniques and watched in wonderment as the water turned the massive wheel, setting the grinding wheels in motion. It was just a fantastic experience. And we got tea and scones to sustain us to our next stop. The mill is a wonder of engineering and is such an authentic visitor experience. I was fascinated, your children will be transported!

Away with the Fairies is a lovely fairy garden based in the heart of the beautiful countryside beside the owner's home and fairy workshop. The owner Rachel was so welcoming and showed us around while also leaving us to explore all of the garden's features at our own pace. I brought a 2 year old girl and she didn't want to leave! They have a small dog named Bob who is very triendly and cat who loves to laze on the fairy house's roof much to the 2 year old's amusement! It is a lovely place to spend an hour with smallies and the shop has a fantastic range of fairy doors, houses and accessories, it was very hard to choose one! A highlight was writing a letter to the fairies and posting it in the post box.

Had a great day here with my 5 children and their friend. We really enjoyed it, it was hard to get them to leave. My younger kids loved feeding the animals, the sheep, goats and lama, my older boys loved inflatable city and had great fun on the slide, and got plenty of exercise. Great menu, nuggets, and burgers, had lovely apple pie and coffee. Place is well heated, plenty of recycle bins and great wifi. A great day out, spent all day saturday and really enjoyed ourselves.

My daughter (9 y.o.) and I booked a week holiday of intensive horse riding... it was amazing! The horses are well taken care of, being led back to a field nearby as soon as they finish their day so they can be "free to be horses". We rode every day, twice a day, both in the arena and out in the forest. Marie, our instructor, is unbelievably good at giving you confidence around horses, both ON the horse and AROUND horses. My daughter was a bit scared at the start around horses, but by day 2 you couldn't get her away from the stables. Thank you Marie for making us much more confident riders (and much better at it!) and thank you Dahlin and Shariff, for being very patient horses!! We can't wait to come back again!
