Linden Tree Books

In addition to being a children's bookstore, we host a summer concert series and book drive benefiting a local literacy program that helps struggling students. Every Wednesday June-August we hire musicians, jugglers, and other entertainers to delight children and their families. Suggested donation is a book per family but we don't turn anyone away. Locals often bring visitors from out of town!

Linden Tree is a staple of the Los Altos downtown scene, and is a very nice, clean, and professionally run bookstore. In this day and age, it is likely to go out of business soon, as Amazon has completely taken over bookselling, which is unfortunate. Enjoy this place while you can, bring your kids, or just hangout on the benches out front.

The exhibits rotates maybe 3-5 times/year. The emphasis is on local history and talent. One of the big draws for all ages is the wonderful miniature working display of "old Los Altos" with lights, bells, whistles and the long lost train that traveled through town twice a day

Windy Hill Open Space Preserve

There are multiple trails and you can start from various locations. We took a hike from Portola Valley to the summit and back. I would rate it as moderate, but be prepared for the fact that the way there is almost all uphill (I believe the gain is about 1000 feet). We started our hike on Sunday around 1.30 pm. The trail was not crowded (despite or because?) he fact it was a long weekend). There are very nice view of the Bay, The trail is dog friendly (must stay leashed). Free trail maps are available at the Portola entrance. Also there are restrooms at the parking lot adjacent to the trail head.

The market runs from April through september on thursday afternoons. It's a great market with a good variety of fruits and vegetables. The quiche truck is especially yummy. You can also get the really sweet and big raisins at this market.
