We enjoyed a nice afternoon at the Lommel Sahara which is situated in the province of Limburg (Belgium) near the Dutch border.
The area consists of an extensive coniferous forest mixed with a desert landscape and lake. The arid and sandy landscape came about as a result of gases emanating from a former zinc factory located there nearly 80 years ago. The lake is the result of sand mining. Forests were planted around the area to prevent further expansion. We took the "orange" route which led us past a viewing tower that was opened in 2014. After many stairs and steps we climbed 30 meters to enjoy some stunning views over the area.

This place is a must-see when you are in the neighbourhood. All the graves look the same, one cross for 2 graves, one on each side, a lot for unknown soldiers. With this simplicity, the place looks very serene. It also makes it clear that this place is the final rest for too many soldiers. A very sad reminder of the history, nevertheless, go visit it!

We are regular visitors to Center Parcs UK and always complain about the price and the fact that nothing is free apart from the swimming. We decided to give our European counterparts a visit before post Brexit travel is stopped!!
Easy to book, they allow you to pay in 3 installments if you wish but when the cost of 7 nights is cheaper than 5 in the UK you don't really need to but it is a nice touch.
Unlike the UK parks they offer lots for free, free allocation of your lodge wherever you want it, 3 free activities, (ours did horse riding and laser tag), free fishing, free childrens entertainment, free evening entertainment.
They even had free samples of food in the supermarket most days, beat that UK!
We arrived at 3pm not planned as this is check in time and those of you Reading this know what a nightmare check in and check out time in the UK is!
It's 3 hours from Calais eurotunnel, we joined a queue of 5 cars to enter and after about 10 mins we were at out lodge. Same lodges as the UK.
Unpacked and drove back to the car park, no queue to get a space just drove straight in and parked. Also unlike UK the car parks are not 3 miles away from the lodges.
The main dome is the same layout in terms of pools, rapids, hot tubs etc, it has a great aerial slide made from clear perspex going into a similar cyclone type plug hole. There is a small baby pool and the usual waves. This one also has a pool you go into which resembles a large rock pool in which you snorkel and look through massive multiple glass windows into a marine fish tank stocked with fish giving the impression you are in the sea. It is much more laid back regarding kids in jackets or armbands going down the rapids. There is no venture cove for kids in the main dome but there is a separate dome just outside called discovery bay which is a pirate themed water based activity area with rope Bridges, slides, aerial walkway, real parrots flying around which is excellent.
The main area of the big dome is amazing with open waterways with large koi carp, turtles, flamingos and parrots!
Usual restaurants and supermarkets a great LED lit area for kids with loads of air hockey and pool tables and bars for adults.
Very relaxed and helpful easy to leave and enter the site to visit the local village Lommel which has a great glass museum and they let our daughter blow her own Christmas bauble. There is a Carrefour supermarket in Lommel which has everything you could want for you self catering needs.
In the comfort lodge they provide 1 pillow and a quilt but no sheets, pillow cases or quilt covers, these are available to hire or bring your own.
You will need towels unless you hire theirs but there is plenty of hot water and the heating is great for drying towels. TV has google chrome stick and there is limited wifi but we upgraded to full for multiple devices to keep the kids happy.
We had a great time and will be going back again.

A nice structure to visit, well constructed and you'll have a nice view of Lommel and its surroundings from the top. I'm not very sure if its worth the 5 EURO entrance fee they are asking ..... The exhibition is not bad, but I was not that impressed - maybe because I have particular ideas about art.

On this cemetery are 257 graves of Polish soldiers, who died on Belgian soil during World War II. It is not that impressive as the German Cemetery nearby, but nevertheless you should visit whilst in Lommel.
Next to the graves there is a sculpture made by Marion Wnuk (Polish artist) which adds a special atmosphere to this cemetery.

We came here with a group of 10 and did the "Le Mans" arrangement. Clear guidelines are given before you start. You can take your own helmet or use one of theirs. Coveralls are available, too. The circuit is very challenging and doing an arrangement like "Le Mans" gives you sufficient time to get trained. There was a lot of healthy competition during the final race and we all had a great time here!

On the way back to our hotel we stopped at this place. It's a stadium (sport park) but it also used for all kind "big' event such as concert, show, festival, circus, congress, etc. We didn't go inside as we arrived 10 minutes before the closing time. Just took a couple of pictures, though
