Rode our scooter and motorbike to base, climbed to top in the middle of the day in June, not recommended, it was very hot. Good views over Loei and surrounding area to get a perspective on where you are and surrounds. Not much in the way of temples on the way up. Toilets at base.

Huai Krathing Reservoir

Reviewed By peterpatterpot - George Town, Malaysia

We were driving from Chiang Khan to Loei and to Phu Ruai area and came across this Reservoir called Huai Krating. Its a lake surrounded by beautiful Mountains . On the lake there are a few raft/boat operators we can rent the raft to ourselves for a whole day at 200baht - 500baht. Depending on what you want to do. We thought just floating in the middle of the lake and hav lunch n do a bit of fishing will do and it costs 200baht smallest raft comfy for 2 pax, for a whole day! Its beautiful lake n waters cool and clean for swimming too. We chose the operator jz next to the Tourist Info Center. Shaded parking area n kitchen looks clean too. The man with long tied up hair came to assist us. Wife is the cook, not as friendly. We actually did catch a huge golden carp on the lake but they didnt want to cook for us, saying she busy n cant clean n cook our fish. Didnt seem friendly n no smile.
Anyway the rafting experience was good n worth our time to detour 10mins only from main highway. Fantastic view as we sit on the raft looking all around us are Mountains. Raft is thatched roof so very cooling and not hot.

We arrived in the parking lot and then took the mandatory 25 baht songthaew (pick-up with seats) to the top. Nice views, but we slept in so the morning fog had dissipated by our arrival.. On that day, it was a little hazy which precluded getting the best landscape photos. Nevertheless, it is a pleasant, low key attraction and we enjoyed it.

At first I did not want to go to this place, but the other 7 people in my group wanted to go. I was glad I went. It was awesome to see how coffee is made in a old fashion processing business. (Not the modern factories). I highly suggest you go here. I would go again.
