Getting its name from the medieval Duchy of Limburg (now split among Holland, Belgium and Germany and the birthplace of the infamously pungent Limburger cheese), Limburg is the Netherlands’ southernmost region. Many of the area’s best attractions are concentrated in the capital of Maastricht, but other sights include the 12th-century Valkenburg castle ruins, the 17th-century Eijsden castle, the 20th-century Glaspaleis (built next to a medieval church at Heerlen), and De Meinweg National Park.

Very good museum. They have a lot of original and unique things to see. It's a small museum in a former mayor house, but very good and very detailed. When you follow the story, which you can download with a special app, it comes even more alive. Nice detail is that most exposed characters have their own face. The museum is created from the point of view of the German soldier August, and gives a view on the way they have experienced the war.

Welkom in Museum de Kantfabriek, gevestigd in de voormalige Zuid-Nederlandse Kantfabriek. Zij werd gebouwd in 1928 en is nu een Rijksmonument. In 2006 werd het sfeervolle dertiger jaren pand omgedoopt tot museum. De kantklosmachines staan nog klaar voor gebruik … We laten u de ontwikkeling van de textielnijverheid en -industrie in de regio Horst (N-Limburg) zien.
