Ayia Mavri Winery

Reviewed By LoukasL_07 - Nicosia, Cyprus

If you are visiting Troodos, coming from Limassol then you must stop at this winery and enjoy a quick tour of the cellars and the wine making process! Great hosts with abundance of knowledge and historic facts that will surely make you wish you didn't drive all the way there so you can sit and drink a bottle of their world famous wines with them! Make sure you buy at least a couple of Mosxatos wine and a few of their other awarded wines! ☺️

Painted Churches in the Troodos Region

Reviewed By 797yiannav - Nicosia, Cyprus

Stavros tou Agiasmati The church of Timios Stavros tou Agiasmati is situated in the eastern part of the Troodos mountain range, in the area of Pitsilia, about five kilometers northeast of the villa The frescoes of the church were painted by a Syrian artist in the 15nth century. Need to contact father Georgios for the key. We have visited most f the painted Unesco churches in Cyprus, but this one is different ! The fresco of St. Michael is superb. There is a fresco of dead Jesus pained in a small dome in the holy Altar and is so real, like in 3D The site were it is built is so sirene. Can have a small picknic outsite enjoying the view.

Kourion

Kourion has everything one might want in an ancient archaeological site: a theatre, an agora, an early Christian basilica, excellent mosaics, Roman baths, a seaside location, and more! There is nothing better than to be at this site on a cool, sunny day. If you are in Cyprus, don't miss Kourion. It is very close to Limassol and not too far from Paphos.

Promenade

We have been taking the children to the sea front for many years. They love the skate board park and have worked there way up from little bikes with stabilisers to the bigger bikes, skate boards or scooters they now bring to play on. They used to like the play areas also but are getting too big for most of the toys. It has been lovely this summer as it is mostly very quiet when we go during the week. I know it gets busier in the evening and at weekends so we avoid the busy times.

Caledonia Waterfalls

Reviewed By Charlcote

Favourite part was having the waterfalls to ourselves. Least favourite part was the markers on the route :-D We parked at the trout farm at the bottom and walked up - there a couple of small pools and waterdrops that you can stop at and admire / catch your breath. There is a covered seat section that has a 2km marker which very nearly made me turn around as really didn't want to climb that distance on top of what we'd already done, but I think it must've been for those that come from the top as less that 200m of clambering up and over rocks and steps we reached the falls. The water is cold, it is slippery and if you brave bare feet the stones are uncomfortable. But on a hot day, and a fair hike, who cares!

Zambartas Winery

The Zambartas story is one of following a dream and the pursuit of a deeply held passion for wine. In 2006, Akis Zambartas established the family winery in the Krasochoria Wine Region of Cyprus. Gifted with enormous passion and a long experience in winemaking, he challenged the established wisdom by focusing on making world class Cypriot wines. The story took off further when Marcos decided to pursue his father as a winemaker and went on to study winemaking in Australia. He came back in 2008, with great dedication and new knowledge. Since then Zambartas has collected some of the most prestigious industry awards and we are delighted that people enjoy our wines all over Cyprus and beyond. We welcome visitors to the winery, which is located in Agios Amvrosios in the Krasochoria Lemesou (Wine villages of Limassol), all year around during week days and weekends!

Marcos and his wife Marleen will show you, what Cyprus wine makers can produce due to their terroir, climate, knowhow, grape varieties etc. The hospitality of these people is a dream. Pre-announcement is necessary.

Timios Stavros Monastery

Reviewed By debdancing - Littlehampton, United Kingdom

This beautiful Monastery, which serves as a working Church, sits right in the heart of Omodos. I was surprised that much of it dates from the 19th Century - I thought it was a much older building, although some parts date back to the 14th Century. It was very busy when I visited but it was still peaceful and dignified. Features include gold-plated iconostatis, frescoes, a beautiful basilica and relics that include a section of rope said to have bound Christ to the cross. Shoulders must be covered when entering the Monastery and photography is not allowed.
