LaM Lille Metropole Musee d'art moderne, d'art contemporain et d'art brut.

Set in a remarkable sculpture park, the LaM has established a unique itinerary for visitors, highlighting the intersection between modern art, contemporary art and art brut. With over 7,000 works, the museum provides a striking overview of the art of the 20th and 21st centuries. By encouraging new ways of interacting and thinking about art, whether through its permanent collection, temporary exhibitions or cultural programme, the museum is focused on sparking your sense of curiosity, and leaves you feeling inspired and moved. Inaugurated in 1983 to house the modern art donation bequeathed by Geneviève and Jean Masurel, the LaM has since emerged as a leading museum on the world stage. Boasting an ambitious programme, it encourages encounters between artists who not only bear witness to their time, but weave a deeply personal perspective into their work.

Maison natale Charles de Gaulle

Reviewed By jimpac1983 - Chatham, United Kingdom

Found this by accident when walking around the streets of Lille. Is very reasonably priced and provided a really interesting view as to what life was like in France in the late 1800s / early 1900s. The English guide (paper or audio available) was informative and the tour of the house was a really fascinating place to walk around. One thing that would have made it more interesting and relevant would have been a section on De Gaulle's later life after childhood. It might be more my ignorance and lack of knowledge but I had heard of De Gaulle and knew he played a significant role in French history during and immediately after WW2 but that was about it and so it would have been appreciated if more information about his life was accessible. I would say this is worth a visit if in Lille.
