Discovered by shear chance this amazing structure was once buried under ground long forgotten about before a big development was undertook. Obviously the developers were halted in their tracks when finding this amazing historical architecture. Check it out for free from the road side.

Lovely beach with white sands and wonderful temperatures. Lots of choices of taverns to eat at along the beach and beautiful clear beach to swim in and lose yourself in thoughts of what it must have been like years and years past. Amazing views, but get there early of you'll have to park on the road and be prepared for the steepest uphill climb of a road when you leave. One of the most beautiful Beaches I've seen.

Now that was amazing! All of the displayed items were nicely arranged with very informative signs. The most impressive part was the Paleolithic and Neolithic finds from the region of Thessaly! Simply stunning! And to think everywhere else in Europe they would charge 15 euros to visit some ruins of some Roman baths, the fee was just the symbolic amount of 4. There was a lecture held on site which we were welcome to attend and the staff were so friendly with us and ready to answer every question! An absolutely beautiful experience!

We enjoyed a nice and relaxing walk within this historic site, which can be easily reached through the beautifully rehabilitated Larissa center. It is a nicely and professionally restored ancient site, just below the hill top; and on the hill top parts of the also historic 'Saint Achillios Basilica' can be seen and explored, among other treasures.

The church in Larisa, located next to numerous ancient sites, is easy to access on foot. It's a beautifully preserved church structure at the Larisa outskirt, and yet very close to the busy and nicely designed city center with its many restaurants and coffee shops around the corners. According to the history, Saint Achilles of Larisa was also known as Ailus, and he was present at the Christian First Council of Nicaea from May-June AD 325. He died in Larisa in AD330, the year of birth is unknown.

A bridge for cars and a separate side for walkers etc goes across the top of the river which is located by a park with jobbers and people strolling along. Seems quite peaceful.

So much money have been spent on this church for not a particular reason. The church is not that nice, however very busy. It is said that humanistic actions are taking place from the people of that church. Can't confirm though.

I’m surprised to see only one review for this place. It’s so pity, because is a really interesting place in the city!
If you are not in the new part of the city, Neapoli, you may take the bus no. 1 from the Central Square in Larissa and get off in a bus station near to Park Ergatou, on 1is Merarchias Street. From here, ask about Georgiou Papandreou Street, the museum is there. You will notice a new style building with a nice park in front. During the weekend the opening hour is till 1 or 2 p.m. and from time to time on Sunday is closed.
In the museum there is a nice art collection and some furniture pieces which belonged to Heinrich Schliemann. The former owner of the collection was Mr. G. I. Katsigras, a famous doctor and a respectable citizen of the city. He donated his art collection to the municipality. The legend says that he didn’t have a quite good relationship with his family in his last years of life and this “helped” him to make a decision in the favor of the city. I don't know if it's true.
Nevertheless there are beautiful paintings in this museum and worth to spend some time here.

The Ethnographical and Historical Museum of Larissa was initially founded about 45 years ago by the Gourgiotis family , citizens of Larissa who loved folk life. Today the museum houses more than 20.000 items covering all aspects of city and rural life of the last 500 years. It is open on Monday and Tuesday from 08;00 to 14;00 . on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 08;00 to 20;00 and on Saturday and Sunday from 10;00 to 14;00. The entrance fee is 3 euros for adults.

If you are anywhere near this beautiful church, please visit it, you won'r regret it, especially if you have a family as it's a great spot for a picnic. Crossing the river on the "wobbly" bridge is an experience as the view down the gorge is a sight. The church itself is small and hewn into the rock-face. Spend some time & money at the small bazaar that is on the opposite side of the gorge, as the choice of icons is fantastic.
