A very well organised museum detailing three tombs in different layers during Moche period. Luckily the artefacts were not looted and are on display showing the exquisite workmanship of potters and metal workers! No one should miss this museum. Information is sadly not always in English, so get a guide.

Visitors to Peru often have no idea of the history of slavery in that country. The Afro Peruvians have left a profound impression on the history, culture, music and gastronomy of this region. This is a very small museum rune by dedicated people who love to promote their culture and especially music.

A very good selection of finds from Moche and Lambayeque periods in a modernist 1966 building. It would be a shame just to see the Tumbes Reales Sipan museum. While you're in Lambayeque make sure to spend an hour here to see additional excavation discoveries of really high quality

This museum is interesting in detailing the time line of pre-Inca cultures on the Northern Coast. There is a large pyramid nearby (with a viewing platform for a better look) and a nature walk to see the cactus, carob trees, burrowing owls, and hummingbirds. The surroundings are very desert-like and there's lots of sand.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria is one of the few tourist attractions in Chiclayo. It overlooks the main city square, and is neo-classical in style. It dates from 1869 and was designed by the famous Gustave Eiffel. On the other side of the square is the equally classical town hall.

Excelente visita a Casa Montjoy, llena de historia y cultura, pero las autoridades locales no le dan la importancia debida. La casa está a punto de caerse porque no la restauran y es una joya del pasado colonial. La verdad la visita estuvo espectacular y el guía interno (q solo pide voluntad porque la entrada es gratis) es lo máximo!

Too many people who visit Peru pass over the pyramid ruins of Batan Grande that are part of the Sanctuario Historico Bosque de Pomac, near Chiclayo. We didn't really know what to expect when we went there on a recommendation of someone from Tripadvisor. And it was fantastic. The best way to visit it is to go horse riding for a day with the owners of Rancho Santana. We did Tucume at the same time and it was a very long day. But either one or the other make for a great outing, well worth the visit of this area.
The horse are super tame (I had never done horse-riding before and wasn't sure if I would feel confident). Andrea and Manuel are lovely. We had fantastic breakfasts with them (homemade jam, bread, cheese and yoghurt - plus Swiss muesli! a luxury in Peru!). We stayed the night on their property too (tent accommodation, cold shower - v basic) and that gave us the opportunity to experience their life at the ranch. Highly recommended.
If you want more fancy accommodation (don't expect much though - just hot water and your own room), you can also stay at a hostel in the town (called Pacora). But you can also go back to Chiclayo in the evening if you want. The ranch is 1.5h away from Chiclayo by public transport.
