What to do and see in Lake Tahoe (Nevada), Lake Tahoe (Nevada): The Best Ski & Snow Tours

July 8, 2021 Vivienne Hutton

With the bluest of blue water and the greenest of green surrounding forest, Lake Tahoe, quite simply, transfixes. From the early Indians to authors such as Mark Twain, folks have tried to capture the beauty and mystique of the lake with nicknames like "Big Blue" and "Grasshopper Soup." Others maintain that it's impossible to describe the magnificence in words. At 6,225 feet above sea level, Tahoe is the highest alpine lake in the United States and has long attracted vacationers from around the world. In the summer, hiking, windsurfing, golfing, fishing and swimming (usually in wet suits due to the lake's brisk year-round temperature) are all the rage. The winter season, which actually starts around Thanksgiving, brings throngs of skiers to area resorts. Located between California and Nevada, different sides of the lake tend to attract different types of visitors. The California side draws families and outdoor enthusiasts while the Nevada side beckons those looking for big name entertainment and casinos. No matter which side you choose, a getaway to stunning Lake Tahoe will not soon be forgotten.

Tour itself was great. Amazing views, quality equipment/rental gear and fun tour guides. One note of caution...Be careful who you book the tour through. Tried booking direct prior to trip, no availability. Stopped into Lake Tahoe Adventures while walking through town and advised they had availability with attendance at a time share pitch for Diamond Resorts. While confirming reservation, the computers went down and the rep stated he would call me back to complete. No return call. Tried calling number on brochure multiple times no answer or return call from messages left. Showed up for time share presentation just to be told because I did not bring my partner I came on the trip with, who by the way was not going on the snowmobile trip, i had to pay for it plus an additional charge. Livid given I was very clear we did not share expenses and I was alone given those I came with were skiing every day. Zephyr Cove snowmobile trip highly recommended. Lake Tahoe Adventures and Diamond Resort proceed with caution. Upon arrival, was amazed to hear 2 other couples and a party of 7 having had similar issues with these same 2 companies
