Had an amazing ride this evening in the most beautiful landscape. Good horses, also for beginners, and the owners were so kind and generous with their knowledge about the area. Will definitely recommend this activity!!

Snow Dogs

We are a small family business including about 25 Siberian Huskies, grandmothers, grandfathers, our children, Bergþóra, Sæmi and more close family members. All of our dogs are friendly (sometimes a little bit to friendly...), they love to exercise and the attention they get from our guests. It is great to be out on the trail with our amazing sled dogs in the beautiful nature close by Lake Myvatn, North Iceland. In winter we offer dog sledding tours and Kennel visits, in summer we offer cart rides and kennel visits.

Very diverse area in the north of Iceland. You can easily spend aroun 3 days here going to the different sights around the lake, the lagoon for a swim, whale watching in Husavik and other sights in the area.

The Myvatn nature Baths are set in an outdoor area with hot springs contained in naturally landscaped areas where one can enjoy the baths and the scenery. They are very reasonable priced compared to the Blue Lagoon, not in a man made setting and much less crowded. They include changing rooms, showers, sauna, geothermal pools and a nice restaurant with a viewing area to eat and relax upstairs with a good view of the pools.

Dettifoss Waterfall

Reviewed By TonySwiss

One of the main attractions of the Mvatn area, this waterfall is 100 meters across, half as high, and one of the highest-volume in Europe. That said, it is not one of my absolute favourites as it is about massive power rather than good looks. Get there in the morning and a rainbow (or more than one) arches over the river downstream of the falls. There are extensive paths so you can view from different angles. If you have time, drive the gravel road 864 to see the falls from the other side of the river too; this gives you the bonus of a wonderful view down the Asbyrgi canyon.

We, family of 4 with two young kids, had a great walk in this awesome lava field. Part of the walk is easily accessible, if you want to take the bigger loop it becomes more adventurous. Highly recommended.

Namafjall

Reviewed By JobeeMom - Toronto, Canada

Iceland is full of natural wonders and surprises. As we travelled east on highway #1 from Lake Myvatn, once we passed by Mt. Namafjall, the road suddenly opened up into a totally different world. It’s hard to believe that the landscape can change so drastically within a 10-minute drive. Moments ago we’re still in cottage-country like Lake Myvatn. And now we’re in some alien planet with bubbling mud pools, hissing fumaroles, cracked grounds with various colours of mineral deposits, and a rotten smell. Namafjall is located by the Ring Road with a large parking lot – very easy to visit. The landscape is so unusual and the smell so strong you won’t miss it. We arrived late afternoon and there’s no tour bus around; only a dozen of cars. We spent half an hour walking the area and snapping pictures. There are no marked trails. Just stay away from the roped off areas due to the dangerously high temperatures. I also tried covering my nose with a scarf as the fumes can be irritating and harmful. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit this surreal place.

Hofdi

Reviewed By Ch00klady - Western Australia, Australia

What an utterly beautiful, amazing place! Even in the changing landscape of Iceland, this place is unique in its own right. As we walked through a little silver birch forest, marvelling at its gentle glow in the setting sun, the lake suddenly appeared in front of us with its unusal rock formations, looking like they had been sculpted by a giant's hand. A circular walk led us past many picturesque spots, well worth the visit. To think we nearly missed the place!

Viti Crater

Reviewed By skyisblu - Montreal, Canada

An easy hike around the lip of the Viti crater, with its beautiful blue crater lake and steaming geothermal pipelines nearby. Don't be surprised if you suddenly feel like you are in the middle of a spy movie, seeking out the villain's lair! Take note: the trail will likely be muddy - REALLY muddy - so don't wear your good shoes. They will be caked in mud by the end of the hike! This is a good hike for all ages and skill levels, with no steep climbs or difficult terrain to navigate. Just follow the trampled path around the crater and back to the parking lot. Note that there are no services provided at this site.

Dimmuborgir Lava Formations

Reviewed By NZSITM - San Francisco, United States

We enjoyed the ranger walk at 10am: easy paved path, helpful information about the lava rocks, history of Dimmuborgir, conservation efforts, and vegetations. Then we hiked from Dimmuborgir to Hverfjall Crater, climbed the extremely steep path up the crater, circled the rim for the beautiful views of Lake Myvatn & surrounding craters. This hike and difficult climb is not for the unfit. Hubby and I hike often and it took the wind out of me. An easier way to hike up Hverfjall Crater may be to approach from the Hverfjall Crater parking lot. We did not go to the Hverfjall Parking Lot because the Road to Hverfjall was unpaved and we didn't want to hurt our 2WD rental car. After the long hike, we returned to Dimmuborgir Parking Lot. There are a gift shop, restaurant and paid toilets here (200 ISK per person). I think if you patronize the restaurant or the gift shop, they would give you an access card to use the same toilets in the back building. I saw a man scanning a card (the shape of a credit card) to use the toilets. Anyhow, this was the highlight of our time at Lake Myvatn.
