Lewis Station Winery

We are one of Wisconsin's most unique urban wineries in a re-purposed early 20th-century gas station. We specialize in small-batch, hand crafted "California Style" award-winning wines. We have won many gold and silver medals at the World Wine Competition and Finger Lakes Wine Competition. Free samples available. We also have a large variety of artisan Wisconsin cheeses, craft beers and gourmet chocolates. We've also opened a bistro focused on the farm to table experience. Not only delicious wine but delicious food too.

We attended a dinner play at Lewis Station. Although the play was great, the food was excellent! It was served buffet style with several choices for salads, main course and dessert. The chef was right at the table watching over it and commenting and answering any questions. Two glasses of Lewis station wine was included in the ticket price. We look forward to attending again!

We were visiting friends up in WI and they took us here to have a few brews. The place is very nice, clean and inviting. They had a great selection of beers and friendly staff. I had the Bitter Woman and my husband had the Down & Dirty. Both were pretty good. The brewery was beautiful with it's 30 BBL Sprinkman brewhouse. Check them out, you won't be disappointed.

Very much dependent on visitors expectations.

Those interested in accepted history will find the site long in generality and theory, little in evidence. Educational markers decayed or vandalized. Disappointing.

The average visitor will find little more than a lumpy field with restrooms and a nice picnic area with a safe decent tasting well. Enjoyable short and easy nature walk looking for bugs and sighting birds. As with most rural areas in Wisconsin, those who forage while walking find some seasonal opportunities. Good place to let the kids run. Nothing particularly exciting but enjoyable.

Apparent mystery of the site presents those with an interest in alternate history a vibrant stage easy for the minds eye to project events upon. Possibilities swirl as hours quickly slip by. Must see.

Glacial Drumlin State Trail West

I love the way Wisconsin bike trails are clearly labeled and easy to find for out of state travelers. There is parking. This does not happen all over the US. This trail is beautiful to ride. There are small towns along the route. We felt lucky to be riding on a sunny spring day with lots of flowers blooming, beautiful bridges, rivers and a lake. The scenery was spectacular with newly planted fields. I felt fortunate to have the chance to experience this place.

This pottery studio specializes in art nouveau styles. The colors are rich, and the designs are original. The artists in residence are free to make whatever shapes, colors, and finishes they wish. I especially liked the realistic animals that clung to many of the vases, such as frogs, dragonflies, and bats.
If you wish to paint your own tile, for $49 you can select a pre-stamped unglazed tile and an assistant will help you paint your own tile! My friend and I spent 2+ hours happily painting, and are looking forward to receiving the glazed tile in the mail after it is fired in the kiln.

Sandy Beach

Reviewed By KristenZee - Janesville, Wisconsin

We visited Sandy Beach on Father's Day. We ate at the bar and grill first (head's up: if you want to sit on the patio you may need reservations). Then we got our beach gear, paid the entrance fee (kids under 5 are free, $6 for kids under 12, and $7 for everyone else non-residents. They also had season and family passes. Lake Mills residents pay less.) and set up in the shade. There are grills for grilling, trash cans, bathrooms (with wet and sandy floors so bring flip flops), two nice beach areas, a marina, sand volleyball courts, and a concession stand (cash only but they had an atm). No glass allowed in the park, so bring cans. Carry-ins allowed. Inflatables allowed. No lifeguard. Water was 70 degrees today, which felt refreshing. Water is nice and clean with a sandy bottom. Picnic tables definitely filled up by noon today, and by 3:30 the parking lot was completely packed (cars followed us and waited for our spot while we packed up). There was a long line to put in and take out boats, too. There were warnings to towel off after swimming to avoid swimmer's itch, but that's pretty normal in Wisconsin lakes this time of year.

Pretty great park! Would definitely go back!

Bartel's Beach

Reviewed By Aztalan - Lake Mills, Wisconsin

We love Bartel's Beach. It is a local gathering place. There are bathrooms and running water. There is a large grass area with picnic tables and garbage cans. The tables fill up early during the weekends. Go early if you want to have a picnic table. The beach has nice sand and the water gradually gets deeper as you walk out to swim, there is a nice sandy bottom until you get out deeper. There is no life guard on duty so make sure to have a friend along.
