El Camino Del Rio

Reviewed By GroverR - Pensacola, United States

We saw 5 national parks and 2 national monuments and they have some amazing scenic drives, but this is the best drive we did in West Texas, New Mexico or Arizona. First you have the open Chihuahuan desert, then great mountains and rolling hills and finally a river in the desert that is also an international border. All of that adds up to an incredibly, beautiful drive. To throw in on top of that you have the goat Clay Henry, the unofficial Mayor of Lajitas and teepee picnic tables along the river. The road is uncharacteristic of every other road in West Texas as it has dozens of curves, moving with the river. Finally it is the river that can be viewed so many times for this road that adds to the charm and experience. You constantly remind yourself that everything you see on the other side is another country.

Closed Canyon

Reviewed By texasfoot - Cypress, United States

I read other reviews, and decided to do this one since it had good reviews and close to Lajitas. This was a great hike!! Kids (9 and 12) also loved it. Lots of climbing around and jumping from rocks for my boy. We weren't able to make it all the way to the River, as small/deep pools of water kept us from passing. Still a fun hike with interesting views inside the canyon.

Hoodoos Trailhead

Reviewed By meganc738 - Broken Arrow, United States

I think one’s rating of this trail depends on expectations. I would better describe this as an area with a handful of hoodoos (nothing like Bryce Canyon) that can be explored; it’s not really much of a “trail.” We have small children and they loved exploring the rocky area around the hoodoos. We also made our way down to the Rio Grande and there’s a fantastic calm area for the kids to play in the river. We stayed about an hour.
