What to do and see in La Digue Island, Seychelles: The Best Things to do Good for Big Groups
Arriving at La Digue feels like sailing straight into a painting, brimming with brush strokes of blue, green and tan. The beaches here are spectacular, particularly Grand Anse and Anse Source d'Argent, which is strewn with pink granite rocks. There are very few cars here, so traveling by bike or by ox cart is the way to go. Pedal over to Ile de Cocos for snorkeling or gawk at the rare Paradise Flycatcher (a beautiful black bird) at the Veuve Nature Reserve.

MUST READ BEFORE GOING Never go without a guide! Why? When we walked the tour today (26-1-2020) with a guide we found a young man dead on the rocks between Anse Source D’Argent and Anse Martin (around Anse aux Cedres). The poor guy went without a guide and really unfortunately paid with his life (it seemed that he tried to walk via the high dangerous part while the safe path was via the low part). I’m so sorry for his family and loved ones and would like to send my deepest condolences to them. There are several post here at TripAdvisor which suggest you can easily do the tour yourself which is really misleading (!!!) and make people take great risks with their lives. Because of these posts I also considered going by myself as they made it seem easy but my gut feeling happily told me to go with a guide. Maybe they are experienced rock climbers (which most of us are not) and completely walked the same safe route as the guides do (which I highly doubt because of the below reasons)?! I myself am really fit and I must say that it’s not easy and a really tricky tour without proper guidance going from Grand Anse beach to Anse Marron and than further to Anse Source D’Argent. Please note the following: - You need to be fit and the safe route is very hard to be found; - the walk includes climbing through small areas below the rocks (which prevents you having to climb the dangerous upper rocks where one could easily slip) and you are walking through really dense jungle areas; - I’m 100% certain that people trying to do it themselves will not take the same safe road (meaning take a more risky road) as I really simply sometimes could not see where we would go next (and even surprised me as the more logical way to me looked differently); - you need to wear proper hiking shoes to prevent any slipping. You will also walk parts through the water (even at low tide when we went); - never go when it has rained or will be raining. It will be very slippery on the rocks. With a guide you are able to enjoy this nice experience and they take no risk at all with any of the customers. They for example don’t go when it has rained and for them the safety of their customers is o so important because an heavy injury or death will mean closure of their business and possibly even prison time. So please use this information so you can make a well informed decision on what to do. The tour itself is really nice and you see some great beaches but not worth dying for when you take excessive risks by going by yourself. Ps: 1. for clarity I’m not at all involved with any tour guides what so ever. With this post I want to prevent any more people getting hurt because saving the small amount of money is not worth it! 2. I’m attaching some nice photos I took because the tour is nice and this post is not meant to discourage anybody from going, but I do want you to be well informed.

This is the place that I will remember forever - very picturesque and extremely beautiful. It is easily accessed passing through the L'Union estate (entrance is 115 rupees) where you can see giant turtoises, vanilla plantations, coconuts plantations including old colonial house, remaining working mill, cemetery from the colonial days that contains the early settlers graves and various vegetation. The beach itself is stunning ... picturesque .... with ‘out of this world rock formations ‘... all surrounded by lush vegetation on one side and white sand and crystal turquoise sea on the other. In spite of being more crowded than other beaches on the island there are plenty of places to sit and hide .... and there is no shortage of shaded areas... also it is a good place for swimming and snorkelling There are plenty of facilities nearby ... small snack places, renting of kayaks etc. Definitely place not to miss.

This is the best Grand Anse beach in the of the three islands as it easily trumps the one in Praslin and better than the Grand Anse in Mahe as well. Be advised not to venture into the waters, the waves are pretty rough and loud as well. But that's what the bliss was all about. The turquoise waters, white sand along with the granitic rocks standing tall amongst the greenery was a sight to cherish.

One of the best beaches, but it can be tough to get there when it's hot. You can expect a hike of about 30-45 minutes in hilly terrain. Bring water well. First, pass the Grand Anse. About the middle of Grand Anse is a large stone and behind it begins the path. Cross a concrete bridge and then keep right. when you come across the first ridge you come to Petit Anse which is also a very nice beach. Here, there is usually a small bar selling coconuts and small palm huts on the beach to get shade. Good as a break on the way home. If you can continue, the path goes in the forest behind Petit Anse and over the next mountain ridge. Then you come down to a beach where there are very few people. Most go farthest away because there is a small pool where you can snorkel in quite calm water.

This is another beautiful beach in the South East of La Digue, although, this can be reached only by doing a small 15 min hike through the rocks and vegetation from Grand Anse. You get super awesome views of the beach at certain points during the hike.

This small island located just north of the private island of Felicite is a paradise for snorkeling. You can see so many of the beautiful species living in the waters surrounding the Seychelles! For those who are a little bit adventurous you might also be so "lucky" to see a white tip shark if you are in a boat and are able to go further east (south of Grande Soeur).

Really awesome beach. The waves were gentle and the water really clear. Just a few metres into the beach we had the best snorkelling experience in the Seychelles. We saw hundreds of brightly coloured fish, a huge sting ray, manta ray and so many other beautiful marine life. The beach itself isn’t quite smooth as it has corals on the sea bed but that not withstanding, the beach is really pretty. Sunsets and sunrises from here were mind blowing. The beach is great even for kids. We stayed right on the beach thanks to Anse Severe beach villas which I totally recommend. There are guys on the beach which sell fresh fruit juices for 100Rupees. There is enough space to stow away your bikes, and also enough trees to provide shade. This beach is just beautiful, and I totally recommend.
