Cathedral of St. Elizabeth (Dom svatej Alzbety)

Reviewed By Perrygrinate - Ashby de la Zouch, United Kingdom

Church or mosque, I always think dusk is a really atmospheric time to visit. I was there for the evening service and then again next morning, where I saw the longest queue for Confession I've ever seen anywhere. A plain but attractive interior and great acoustice. In my view, though, the real jewel is the outside of the Cathedral

Kosice Historical Centre

The historical centre of Košice, whose medieval city walls were removed in the 18th century, is today formed by a nearly one kilometer long Promenade lined with exquisite historical buildings, once inhabited by medieval kings and nobility. Together with craftsmen's houses, churches, squares and narrow streets, they create an atmosphere full of legends and stories. You can uncover these and more!

We stopped to eat there in our road trip. After eating we took a very nice walk in the city. The city center is truly authentic and there is plenty to see like the signing Fountain

Singing Fountain

Reviewed By Andrea H - Kosice, Slovakia

Fountain with carillion known as "singing fountain" is located in the core centre on the main street /Hlavna ulica/. It has great atmosphere and it is lovely just to sit there on the bech and have ice cream in the summer or admire the ice-sculptures in the winter. You can hear it carillion with 10 bells "singing" at each hour /so 01.00pm, 02.pm etc/. The Fountain is active only in the summer months and in the eveningy it is very beautiful to watch the light of the Fountain.

Zoo Kosice

Reviewed By William S - Oxford, United Kingdom

Excellent value Zoo, with acres of land and lots of animals for the children to see. Some of the enclosures are dated and feel like they need modernizing or enhancing. Where as others meet the natural requirements for the animals habitats and make the enclosure feel natural. Through out the park there are lots of small parks for the children to play in and restaurants and coffee shops. Our children loved this Zoo and we look forward to coming back again soon.

Immaculata

Reviewed By toveyc1 - Bristol, United Kingdom

Past St Elizabeth Cathedral, past the singing Fountain in Kosice and you come upon this statue. At the time I saw it, a beautiful bride was having her pictures taken by a photographer next to it. The architecture in this area is lovely and this statue is another example of that beauty.

Miklus Prison

Reviewed By Elizabeth P - St Helens, United Kingdom

This prison is steeped in history. Great views of weaponry displayed, also an interesting film to watch but so chilling! It enables you to be able to visit original cells and you can almost feel the horrors of past times as you look around.
It is a brilliant way to learn of the varied and fascinating history of Slovakia. Also fantastic value for money and provides portable English translation.

State Theatre Kosice

Reviewed By Taanialiik - Fiorenzuola d'Arda, Italy

We entered in the theater an hour before the premiére of The Traviata - badly dressed as two twenty-something, shoestring travellers in a -5°C December evening may be, asking when it would have been possible to visit the inside of the building.
They immediately accompanied us in a personal mini-tour, with two nice girls that spoke good English and gave us some historical informations, while the musicians were doing the reharsals. The interior is astonishing, something unexpected even for us Italian - quite accostumed to Theaters - as it was better than a lot of famous structures in big Italian cities (did somebody say Milan?). It came out as our biggest regret in our Slovak travel: with a little more planning we would have seen some play here, it must be great! Do it!

We visited this place twice in the few days we were in Kosice. A nice venue, very popular with locals. We were hoping for some live music but there wasn't any at the times we visited. Good food, good service, good prices and a nice atmosphere.

Kaplnka svateho Michala

Reviewed By TravelingCat22 - Tucson, Arizona

Since this chapel is just next to the massive Cathedral it would be easy to miss it coming from the north of the city. To avoid this and if you do your tour in the morning, starting by the Lower Gate will also ensure perfect sun on the very original roof of this cute chapel.

Jakabov Palac

Reviewed By Eva J - Kiev, Ukraine

This 'palace' is one of the first things you'll see when entering the city center coming from the train/bus station. It definitely makes an impression. As others have said, it isn't actually a sight, it isn't open. Too bad.
