What to do and see in Knoxville, Tennessee (TN): The Best Bars & Clubs

January 3, 2022 Roger Rusk

During the Civil War, Knoxville's Mabry-Hazen House served as headquarters for both the Confederate and Union armies. Today you can visit the house and other historic homes in this eastern Tennessee city. Among Knoxville's other attractions are museums, a zoo and World's Fair Park, site of the 1982 World's Fair. University of Tennessee sports draw lots of fans, as does the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. To see Knoxville from the water, take a leisurely riverboat ride down the Tennessee River.

My type of place. Light and airy - with lots of beer selection both on tap and in cans. Leather couches to sit and compare tasting notes. I wish I had the same in my neighborhood. Beer is very good with an amazing selection. Free tastes - and great advice on what to buy next. LOVED IT! Dog Friendly!

We decided to head to Open Chords because I play the guitar and the name of the place caught my eye. I was also intrigued by the fact that it is a restaurant, music venue, music store, and teaches music (very unique in my eye). I had no preconceived notions about going there. We really enjoyed our time. The service we received was perfect. They made us feel valued. We ate some lunch (wings and nachos) and it was good bar food. My girl felt it was the best nachos she had ever had, they were really good. We had a few drinks and then wandered into the music store. They are the largest dealer of Taylor guitars in the city (something I did not know) and wouldn't you know it, Taylor is my favorite, I have two. I sat and played about 6 or 7 guitars and in that time I bought one of them. The person working the store was polite knowledgeable and speedy. Thus, I cannot remember a time that I went out somewhere on a whim and left thoroughly satisfied. Whenever I head back to Knoxville this will be the first place I go! See the manager Kevin, he will take great care of you, he takes pride in his work.

Preservation Pub

I've been to this bar twice now. Full disclosure is that my band played both times. That said, I can tell a good bar when I see one, I have to spend numerous hours in bars all around the country and world. This place is neighborly, comfortable, accommodating and just cool. The music they choose is awesome and the crowd loves it all,. They really immerse themselves in the entertainment here. The staff is so nice and the food is great too. They have three levels, the rowdy music part is on the main level, a more intimate and quiet level is on the second floor and then a rooftop oasis for those wanting a view over Market square and some fresh air. I wish I lived near here so I could make this my favorite hang out. I could seriously see myself there every night. Great place, great people, great food and drink, great music, what more could you ask for?

Great Spot for couples or friends to have hand crafted cocktails! These are best old fashions I have ever had... and I’ve tried a lot ???? You enter through the alley and it’s in the Oliver Hotel! Great vibe ! It’s small and there is some communal seating but it’s been a favorite of mine for years!

Pour Taproom

68 taps! Just open a tab, get your wristband, and sample as many different beers as you like. Since it's a pour your own style you can try just a couple of ounces at a time. A small bar food menu but they encourage bringing in outside food. A fun atmosphere in a clean environment and a great concept for beer lovers like myself that like to try different beers.
