During our stay in Nha Trang, an unexpected delight was going to a performance at the town’s Water Puppet theatre, just across the road from the beach. This lovely show, lasting around an hour, comprised dozens of wooden puppets performing in, on and above a huge square water pool, around which the audience were seated. Historical legends, myths and folk tales unfolded before our eyes, and it didn’t matter at all that we didn’t understand the language – the show was a visual and musical delight, and language was no barrier. The (surprisingly youthful) puppeteers themselves work behind a colourful flat, and come to take their bow at the end of the performance. Whatever age you may be, this wonderful little show is for you!
