Steele Winery

Reviewed By Steve R - Roseville, California

Most of the wines and wineries in Kelseyville are mediocre at best.

But at Steele, we're talking about wine superstar Jed Steele. His wines are always really good with an occasional great and outstanding. Only scored a high 3 because of the wine.

Biggest issue is that it's in Kelseyville near Clearlake. Clearlake is dead and smells it in the summer, with pond scum gone awry. Kelseyville is cute and small but not a destination and it's not an easy stop from somewhere or to somewhere. It's a trap.

I've also been told there's lots of pot growing in and around and Meth seems to be an issue for the area.

So even though I like the wine...wouldn't recommend.

Short excursion (22 min) from Clearlake through beautiful scenery and a few vista points. The Tuscan villa style winery and gardens are charming and the tasting room is pleasant. The wines are great, I personally enjoyed the 2015 Sauvignon Blanc and the 2014 Malbec, both were a refreshing sip on a hot summer day. There's a nice covered patio with restrooms to enjoy a picnic lunch/dinner. Young children may not be as entertained but we did see quite a few deer on the way back to the lake and kept the visit short. Overall, well worth the trip getting here.

My wife and I visited this "vinegarden" just a few miles east of our hotel (the Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake, CA). It is beautiful and continues the Fetzer wine legacy into the next generation. Not only is it organic in practice, but it also endeavors to restore nutrients to the soil by mingling other organic operations (chickens, sheep, olives, nut trees, lavender, etc., into an integrative whole. The wine is just great and will only improve as time goes on. The grounds border Clear Lake. The architecture is Mediterranean, like an old mission updated. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

Raymond was an excellent driver and tour guide! His attention to detail in planning our day around lunch at St. Francis and the Petroni vineyard made our day even more special. Raymond took time before we arrived to find out what kind of wines we liked and filled in the gaps for us. His choice of VJB fit right into our schedule and was not a vineyard on our radar. From the moment we were picked up (on time) Raymond gave us his undivided attention. His knowledge of wine and the area enhanced our experience. He even sent us a link so that we could download the pictures that he took (at no extra charge).

The mini van was spotlessly clean, plenty big enough for 4 and easy to get in and out of. We have found our favorite driver! Five stars is not enough for Wine Cubed Tours!

Clear Lake State Park is located on the lake. Fishing, bird watching, and simply enjoying the beauty of this lakefront park draws many folks back, time and again over the years. We love walking on the pathways, the beach, through the trees. Peaceful and full of wildlife. We've seen waterfowl, osprey, deer, otter, turtles, and more. A great place to visit.

The store is designed to bring a smile to your face which everyone needs now a days. Customers say it is like going back in time. As you find something to spark a great memory as a child. It was kind of a goal to do that very thing to people. It features a museum of 750 Lunchboxes plus one of the LARGEST Generic Vinyl Cases COLLECTION in USA, shelves filled with lunch boxes, bobby soxer ponytail accessories, cards, action figures, 8 track tapes, carnival items, front strike match books, Marx pinball machine games or toys, Year Books, Star Wars, Star Trek, Indiana Jones, Starting Line-Up sports, MIB collectibles and anything whimsical that we come across. Laujor Estate Winery

Reviewed By LoomisSteve - Loomis, California

If you are a wine lover this is the trifecta, Gregory Graham Winery, Vigilance-Shannon Ridge Winery and Laujor Estate Winery. All these wineries are in a short distance of each other with outstanding wines and two have to die for views. In addition to great wines we were served by Caroline, she alone is worth the visit, a treasure from across the pond, she is just a ball of exuberance about the wine and life in general. Over the top friendly, she also knows her wines, but most of all makes you feel like family. The wines are rich and full bodied, with the Sarah-Noir the star. The owners-wine makers have built a tasting room that offers comfort and very special views. Located among hundreds of acres of vineyards looking out towards clear lake makes you feel like you are in Europe. But you are not, you are only a short distance away in Lake County! Close enough for many repeat trips!
