Karlstejn Castle

This Gothic castle was built in 1348, as a stronghold for royal treasures, especially Emperor Charles IV's collection of holy relics and the coronation jewels of the Roman Empire.

My partner and I visited Karlštejn castle during our Christmas stay in Prague. It was a nice half day trip. It is very easy to go there by direct train from Prague (it takes 40 minutes).
We bought a tour "Historical Interiors of the Emperor’s Palace and the Mariánská Tower" in English. Admission was 330,- CZK per person. The interiors were not so rich furnished as in other Czech Castles. But the castle was really monumental and it worth visiting. Takeing pictures without flash is allowed and it is free.
There were a lot of restaurants and shops in town Karlštejn. Most of them were open even through Christmas holiday.

Lom Velka Amerika

Reviewed By martinmadera - Prague, Czech Republic

Before going there...get informed! It is really amazing place. And not just one, there is at least 3 quarries (open-pit mines): Velka Amerika, means Big America, then Mexiko, means Mexico and finally Mala Amerika, means Small America. All of them fantastic, in the forest, great nature. The "only" problem is they are closed and not accesible, just now it is a private property, so be careful. If you enter and they catch you, you will be fired and probably fined! And of course, to enter is not any easy, you have to climb down and there are real rocks, so it is potentially very dangerous. But even so it is worth of visit, i think. I did so and i was not disappointed. Just be really careful.

Svaty Jan Pod Skalou

Reviewed By ZdenekVesecky - Prague

Svatý Jan pod Skalou is very small village in Central Bohemia, at about 30 kilometres out of Prague. The dominant of thus village is a big rock and Church of St. John the Baptist just under it. There is an ancient history about hermit Ivan. You can visit his cave, it is a part of the church now. Also drink the powerful healing spring St. Ivan. It is tasty and very healthy. Lot of people in comming here with bottles for water. After the visit, walk up the rock above. It will take 25 minutes. You can meet many families with little kids to go up. But few parts are little bit difficult. At the top enjoy an amazing view to the countryside or down to village with church. Stay under the big cross, this you can see from the village, and relax, it is a fantastic place for this. You can eat in restaurant Hotel Obecná škola, only 200 metres away from the church. They have a good food and it is the only one option to eat in Svatý Jan pod Skalou. To come to this village is easy by car from Beroun. You can also walk from Beroun on the red tourist way, it is only 5 kilometres in the forrest. It is possible to come also on bicycle, but it is up and down enough. In this part of Central Bohemia, take your time to visit the castle Karlštejn, caves in Koněprusy, the town Beroun or the museum of mining in Chrustenice. Everything is maximally 10 kilometres out of Svatý Jan pod Skalou.

Mala Morava

Mala Morava is a small bar in the 'village' (population 12,000!) of Revnice in the Czech Republic. We were visiting friends in the village for a week and this became our place to meet in the evening. The staff were very friendly and spoke enough English for all of us to be understood!

Medvedarium

Reviewed By Blodenwedd - Prague, Czech Republic

"Medvědárium" (the-place-where-the-bears-are:-) is located on the hill Městská hora. Park in nearby streets or just walk from the city centre to reach the bears (they are popular for casting in Czech tales for children as cubs). Here you can have some refreshments and kids enjoy big wooden playground under the trees. Also take a short hike to the watchtower on the top of the hill. Best place in Beroun (except from the micro-brewery Medvěd).

Albatross Golf Resort

Reviewed By CaptainBoy - Prague, Czech Republic

I have been visiting this excellent sport event for several days. The first year of D+D REAL Czech Masters took place at Albatross Golf Resort, not far away from Prague. Jamie DONALDSON secured his win with final score of 14 under par and clinched RYDER CUP spot in team Europe. I really liked this tournament, which was my 1st golf experience and I can only recommend it. It can be worth visiting for all, sportsmen, young and adult visitors, families. There was the whole section of the gold tent village designed for kids and kids only. Many different contests for visitors also hold my attention, and of course many catering facilities as bars and restaurants.

Barokni areal Skalka

Having seen the changes over many years in particular the restoration work. it is very peaceful place but hard walking uphill. A little gallery there but not sure if any refreshment yet there. The Skalka church has it's history and has survived, almost clamped together! Just sit on the bench and look at the view!

Museum of Nativity Scenes

Reviewed By PavlaPavla - Chrudim, Czech Republic

There are approximately fifty beautiful nativity scenes in that museum. Some of the scenes move or they lit.
In the loft there is the largest Czech moving nativity scene (it stretches on about 80 meters square). This nativity scene shows the little Jesus who receives presents from the king Charles IV. and from the first Czech president as well. You can see sixty four wooden figures there.
This museum is very lovely and definitely worth visiting.
Admission is 50,- CZK per adult. Taking pictures is allowed.

Albatross Golf Course

Reviewed By Martynjw - Henley-on-Thames, United Kingdom

Ive played a fair bit of golf in Prague area, and this year was playing Albatross for the first time, we also played Konopiste, Karlstejn, and Beroun, Albatross was in my opinion the least enjoyable. Its clearly quite new fairly long but 18th apart no really memorable holes.
Greens were good, and fairways well presented, rough was v long (I guess in prep for tour event in august).
What really put me off personally was the attitude of the starter who seemed to look down his nose at us and followed us around the course for the first 6 holes as if were doing something wrong.
Club house very nice.
My advice, play it but dont play it instead of Karlstejn or Beroun or Konopiste.......
