It's the Wandering Yank here. Twice in earlier years we attempted to visit Daffodil Hill. The first time, it turned out it had closed for the season a few days earlier. The second time, we arrived at closing time. Lessons learned...this time, we called 209-296-7048 and listened to the recording before heading up. Good idea!
It's a pretty drive through some fairly remote foothills country to get there. Once we got there, it was crowded (a beautiful Sunday afternoon, so no surprise there). But there was enough parking and the CHP and volunteers managed it well.
No admission charge, but donations are welcome. It's very pretty of course, scattered fields of daffodils and the occasional tulip on the hillside. Very photogenic of course too. A noisy peacock provided a bit of a soundtrack. Porta-potties are available as needed.
By the way, here's a suggestion if you time it right. Make a loop from Sutter Creek to Daffodil Hill to Fiddletown and the Amador wine country. The wineries all close by 4 or 430, so leave enough time to visit those if you're interested. Even if you don't want to taste wine, it's a nice drive back on a different road.

There is much to see here, especially considering that the mine has not been operational for decades. The guide was friendly and well informed, and the staff and amenities in general were welcoming. The guide also provided helpful information for exploring Jackson and St. Sava's Serbian Orthodox Church and cemetery.

Merv Hoffman gave our group an extensive tour of the mine site. His knowledge of the daily lives of the miners, plus his understanding of the history of the mother lode, that seam of gold-bearing rock that fueled the gold rush, really made this visit memorable.
If you visit the gold country, stop in at the Kennedy Gold Mine. You'll be glad you did.

Place is clean and fairly good size for an Indian casino. That's about as good as it gets. Food is horrible, very sparse wait staff, no alcohol, no bar - only Casino I've been to without some kind of sports bar. Slots are tight. Not sure why people come here. I was going to book a few nights at the hotel for my wife's birthday, extremely glad I didn't. Keep driving and don't stop. Better things to see and do in the surrounding area. Save your money.

It all started in 1995 when Belgrade iconographer was asked to paint frescoes and icons inside the church. Thirteen years later, 2008, he completed his job. Today, you don't need to go to Byzantine Europe to see this important religious and historical artwork.

Day use park for fishing, hiking, biking and horseback riding. There are picnic areas, restrooms, plenty of parking and great trails around the lake. Kayaks/canoes allowed through no motor boats. Dept of Fish and Game stocks the lake. Open year round.

I live just three miles from the small lake. Picnic tables are few, but scenery is nice. Fishing allowed in the lake but not real successful, but only canoes and kayaks are allowed. Also no swimming. This is a PGE controlled lake.

Interest taste of jackson's history in the two-three cemeteries that run together. I enjoy walking the area and reading epitaphs. Worth visiting. Not a lot of trees, so bring a hat or go during the spring or fall.

My sister, brother-in-law and son visited Court Street on a late Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed the architecture and several of the shops. The candy store (with every type of vintage candy you can remember from your childhood is available) and kitchenwares shop were the best. There are also several large, clean antique shops with a decent selection of items. The only disappointing thing was the number of store vacancies; hopefully, more entrepreneurs will take up the cause and open shops there.

The Mokelumne wilderness area is located about an hour from Jackson, off Highway 88. It consists of over 100,000 acres that are accessible only on foot or by horseback. Nothing mechanical is allowed, including bikes and hiking strollers.
There are three trailheads that access it and the charge for day use is $5 per car. Overnight camping requires a permit that you must purchase ahead of time. Winter temps are cold and snow may be deep at higher altitudes.
Unless you are a serious hiker, you can't access much from the highway. There are many other places to enjoy an easier, shorter hike or walk to see beautiful countryside.

I have driven by this frame work of an old store from gold times. There isn't much to see and you can't get access, but it is Americana!
