The 46-mile Withlacoochee State Trail is a great place to ride. The surface is asphalt paved and the trail winds through or near several small towns as well as through the City of Inverness. Much of the trail is through forest with a lovely, shady canopy.

We went here with our dogs to do some geocaching and we were amazed at all of the fun things to do here- tennis, basketball, softball, swimming (pool), etc. And it is free admission to the park! We had a really great day (well, until one lady let her dog loose and attacked our dogs...but that can happen anywhere).

After days of hiking, swimming, and eating every delectable local find we could wrap our lips around, we decided to take a gamble and find Cooter Pond Park. This is not Cooter Pond Park...We'd still like to go there, but only on our next trip because as we found out after exiting our vehicle this place is worth multiple visits too. It had everything we were looking for in terms of atmosphere. We wanted a quiet romantic getaway with nature, lots of places to sit near the water, under the trees, and away from direct sunlight (that sun can get intense), options to fish from the many piers if we had our equipment, and a possibility to safely see alligators. [we are in Florida]. This park is a bikers dream come true. It is part of the Withlacoochee State Trail that runs through multiple little parks through the state. Next time we visit we'll either bring our own bikes or rent some to see the sights, and definitely try our hand at fishing. The birds in the area are very talkative and varied. Get up early or stay out late enough to hear them, and bring binoculars if you are into that kind of thing (I will next time), and just enjoy this nugget of heaven. You deserve it!

Fort Cooper State Park

We have read several reviews stating that there is nothing to do at this Park. What nonsense! There is plenty to do here. You can rent a canoe, ride your bike through the trails or put on your walking shoes and setoff for the Fort site. There is not much of the Fort to see, but the walk is amazing and the view from the top of the site over the lake is impressive. We stayed for about three hours, had lunch and then walked over to the bat house. The rest rooms are spotless and there is a good children's playground. We will return next year, do not change a single thing.

We have a dog park in Ocala, but we drive over to this one and not only pay the gas to drive there but pay the entrance fee to get inside. It's THAT worth it. The dog park in Ocala is a free range, anyone can come and go type of park. Dogs are not checked for vaccines and if they're spayed or neutered. AT BARK CENTRAL - your dog is screened, all of the shot records are required and you obtain a membership. The membership can be monthly or yearly. It's 10.00 a visit and totally worth it. The park is HUGE! It's SHADED all over the place, which is a huge plus living in Florida. There is a pond for the dogs to play in. That's so hard to find anywhere, and our dog loves the water. The best part, as soon as the dog is done playing ... getting dirty and wet, when you leave there is a rinse off and wash station - ALONG with a vacuum to dry them! This park is fantastic. I can take my dog there, knowing that 1) all dogs have had their vaccinations .. 2) that it's a membership, so not just anyone can walk in ... 3) I can clean my dog when we leave so he isn't sandy and muddy when he gets in the truck. I really can't say enough about this place. The 10.00 fee may be off-putting, but you're paying for a wonderful area and upkeep for your dog to play safely with other animals. They are also good about not allowing aggressive dogs staying. If a dog becomes aggressive, you will be asked to leave. We've witnessed it. We really enjoy it and will continue taking our dog. Please note, any children have to be 14 years or older to enter the main park. There is a large dog area and a small dog area. There is also an agility area for you to play with your dog, one on one and do agility training. This place is great. Really give it a chance.
