Arrowhead Park is a wonderful facility for a small community like Inlet. Located in the middle of town, it has beaches and boat launches, ball fields and playgrounds. Plus, it very recently dedicated some beautiful war memorials to the memory of locals who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our nation. This place deserves everyone's support, and I recommend a visit if you are passing through the town.

Call ahead to make reservations. The staff is friendly and provide a quick overview of horseback riding. It is not necessary to have prior riding experience to enjoy the ride. We took the hour long tour ($40 each) which was a trip to a state preserve that is adjacent to the stable. As I was in the back I could not hear the guide but the ride was nice and the horses were very docile and clearly knew the route.

The greatest views in the area are here in multiple places. This climb is very different than like Oregon (according to Oregonian) because this involves a lot of climbing over obstacles and rocks. Climbing gear not required. Its just not a evenly inclined grade over a set trail. So it provides variation of your path. The goal is the Fire Tower which was newly rebuilt in 1951. Its well maintained and safe to climb for the best views. A must do for those capable of moderate exercise.

Our party of 7 enjoyed the dinner cruise. The seating on the dining area is a bit tight but manageable. We had drinks up top, then a served dinner...soup, salad, entre ( choice of 5 ) and dessert. Service was excellent and the food better than one would expect. The beautiful scenery didn't hurt either. Will try the brunch cruise next year.

Can get REALLY muddy when it rains. Takes a little bit of hiking through trees to get to mountain's base before ascsending. Would not recommend small children on this one. Go to Rocky Point on Mt.'s left. Nice at top, view pretty good, but not as good as Mt. Saint Regis....REALLY good first mountain for families and the view at the top is spectacular!

We've been coming up to Old Forge for decades and we never tire of taking the chairlift up to the top of McCauley Mountain. It's only $6 a ticket for adults, the staff is very helpful getting you in and out of the lift chairs and the view of the Adirondack lakes and mountains is spectacular. There are chairs to sit on and picnic tables at the summit - great place to pack a lunch. For hikers, you are welcome to walk up or down the mountain - there are several trails. Great views of the Fulton Chain on Lakes, Bald Mountain, Blue Mountain. Well worth the trip and a great value!

Cascade Falls

Reviewed By patn03 - Minneapolis, Minnesota

We did an afternoon hike through Cascade Lakes trail towards Cascade Falls. The trailhead was a few miles outside of Eagle Bay (not an hour outside of it, as one article I read suggested), with a small parking area. This trail wound through woods for the most part, pretty but without a lot of views. To get to the falls was about a 6.5 mile hike for us, although not a difficult one - the trail was sometimes a little rocky, but not steep or hard to find. There were signs at almost all intersections, EXCEPT, disappointingly, we never saw a sign for the falls themselves! They are perhaps 100 yards off the main trail, but with no sign for the side trail. Listen for the water, and if you see a little side trail right before (or after, if you are coming the other way through the loop) one of the small wooden bridges crossing a stream, take it.

We went up on the plane with our children and my father in-law. It was a nice brief 15 minute tour in the plane, with different landmarks and facts about the area pointed out. If you get motion sickness, maybe wear some of those bracelets because it is a bit shaky, as can be expected from a small plane. We had a great time, and our kids loved it!

The Strand Theatre

This format is misleading...since I haven't visited the Strand in awhile....but I grew up spending summers in Old Forge. I remember when the Strand was derelict....moldy and musty...on its way out. A grand theater in its grave. It's current owner saved it with a true love for cinema. He's spent resources and a lot of love of cinema to make it modern in service but old charm in style. Amazing resurrection...Please visit.
