We were visiting on the way to North Karelia. Very impressive when the rapid Imatrankoski opens! Recommend also walking the channel route and visiting Valtionhotelli nearby.

A nice church in calm and peaceful corner of Ruokolahti. The church has nothing special but you can spend about 1 hour visiting the church, surrounding and bell tower near by. If you are on highway-6 you can stopover for a short break.

The daily rapid show during the summer months is a must. I have seen it several times and it is just incredible everytime. You get cold vibes in your back every time they open the gates. The wind will raise. The temperature will fall. The birds will stops singing. And finally, the water roars over the stones ....

As a professional guide this statue of naked woman first looks strange but if know history why ,there is some sense..woman in statue committed suisaid jumped to river after miserable love story with Russian soldier at past time.We dont know reason why this soldier first committed suiside and after that his woman finnish her life same way.Statue made by scupturer Taisto Martiskainen and placed to this place 1972.Statue located in city crownpark between river rapids and main river in center. This waterfall or rapids how we want to call it its open with music every day summertime 1800.Its apsolutely worth to see.

A beautiful wooden bell tower next to Ruokolahden church. The bell tower is inside the cemetery and may not be visible from church side. Worth a short visit. Very interesting.

This church is stunning. It is in a beautiful setting on the outskirts of a small town. The interior is beautiful with cool design, and it has two moving walls that allow the congregation area to expand 3 fold. Totally worth a stop if driving up towards Savonlinna.

Activities in 2 stories. You can jump from a heigth, ride a quadbike, dodge laser, Scoot, play football, play hockey, climb and jump, play xbox games, fun for kids.Ours are 5 and 7 and we spend 3,5 hrs here. Recommend this.
Only downsize was the price 58 euro for the family ticket. It is a daypass and you can come and go as you wish. Snacks and drinks are Also overprized. Even water is for a cost. There is a small market downstairs with better prices.
The shopping centre it's situated in seems to be dying. Only a few shops and the most are vacant
I Also wish the russian kids would learn the concept of queuing. What i seen this summer in Turkey and in Saimaa i dont think There is a single queu in Russia ever.

Only occasional open, lack of information. The Guide wasn't so good. The environment is full of junk and "unkempt". but there's a good place to park even some buses at the same time.

There have been at least two dwelling sites on Lammassaari (Sheep Island) during the Stone Age. Now you can walk on these "same" routes. There is a nature trail on the island. The nature trail is 2.5-3.7 kilometers long depending on the route you choose. Try to find a geocache, too.
There are some open campfire sites and a hut on Lammassaari. Firewood is available for free at the hut but take your own matchsticks and sausages with you. There is also a small beach on the island. So you can take trunks or a swimsuit, too.
Earlier we have visited Lammassaari in winter. Now we visited it for the first time in spring and the island looked still more beautiful than in winter.
Lammassaari Island is suitable for the whole family. But if you like a bit longer hike and more natural surroundings, I recommend that you walk to Malonsaari Island. It is situated 3 kilometers northeast from Lammassaari. There are marked paths from the parking lot of Imatran Kylpylä Spa both to Lammassaari (the southern route) and Malonsaari (the northern route named "Kylpylän luontopolku").
