THATLou, Treasure Hunt at the Louvre

THATLou runs themed Treasure Hunts at the Louvre (what it stands for) & is part of THATMuse (other museums: Musee d’Orsay, British Museum & the Streets of Paris, THATRue). Our themed hunts give you an overview, whilst keeping you focused & injecting fun in your museum visit. Both educational & adrenalin-pumping, our goal is to make you want to see more of the museum after the hunt. No knowledge of art prior is necessary

I'm embarrassed that it has taken me almost a year to write this review! We were there in October, 2017. But that's not because we didn't love our THATLou experience. However, now I can say how the experience is a lasting one. Images of the "treasures" that we found in the Louvre are so ubiquitous that my granddaughters, ages 10 and 14, have recognized many of them over and over as the months have passed. They are always excited to point them out. The artifacts are important in their history studies as well. The day of our THATLou was amazing! Daisy met us punctually and gave us a brief, interesting and informative historical background introduction which was perfectly tailored for our girls. The not-too-long wait in line passed quickly because Daisy talked about such interesting things. She is extremely knowledgeable. As we entered, we were given packets containing our scavenger hunt instructions. Daisy showed us how the hunt worked, suggested strategies, and explained the map of the Louvre (which is very complex). We split into 2 teams: Mom and 10 year old, Grandma and 14 year old. The hunt itself was amazing. The packet talked about each “treasure” with a picture and description which included its history and often a bonus. Be sure to follow the links they send in the email - information there will help earn bonus points. The treasures were definitely highlights at the museum. We wanted more time than 1.5 hours! Afterwards we took each other to the treasures the other team had missed. We enthusiastically recommend this activity for a 1st time visit to the Louvre with kids!

The Paris Catacombs

A genuine labyrinth in the heart of underground Paris, the Catacombs were fitted out in the galleries of former quarries. Twenty metres underground, the ossuary houses the remains of approximately six million Parisians, gradually transferred between the end of the 18th century and the mid 19th century, as the capital's cemeteries were closed for health reasons. Along a tangle of dark galleries, visitors discover a presentation of death with bones arranged in a romantic macabre decor. This unique site is a moving testimony to the history of Parisians and invites visitors on a timeless journey.

Few queue because you have to book your visit online on this covid period. Very interesting and enriching because it is the history of Paris underground. Millions of skeleton fragments that are Parisians of the last centuries. Touching, a little morbid but not stressful. Visit to combine with a delicacy (handmade) with a real English Tea room really near : High Societhé (100 av denfert rochereau). So happy to sit and enjoy life again after such an amazing visit !

Comptoir des catacombes

My boyfriend and I wanted to visit the catacombs but didn't book tickets online days in advance. After reading reviews, we realized the wait could be 2-3 hours, which was too much for the short time we would be in Paris. I thought all tickets would be sold out the day before, but Headout.com had skip the line tickets WITH the audio tour at a reasonable price. Booking was simple and so was retrieving the tickets. While the line was estimated to be a 2.5 hour wait when we got there, we only had to wait about 15 minutes!! We had a great time and were so glad we bought tickets in advance at the last minute. Thank you Headout.com!
