Freshly made ice cream, one of the best there is... They have a wide variety of flavours, all made of fresch cow milk. You can also have some wafles or pancakes, but I prefer the ice cream!

Besides local history, this museum has some modern art on display. But I'd visit it for the history. There are stone and bronze tools from the corresponding eras. Especially the collection of bronze axes is remarkable. Where other museums often show a bunch of arrowheads together, here the individual items are given a little more attention through individual descriptions. There is a wooden well from Meerle, dating to about 1080. There are some small cannons from 1790, and earthenware items from the Beguinage, 17th-18th century. And there are many more items, like important medieval documents and stamps etc.. Entry is free, so 4 stars from me.

Eervol om als eerste een review door te geven. Nabij Wortel is een mooi wandelgebied door oude veenkoloniën. Het bezoekerscentrum De Klapekster is een fijn vertrek- en aankomstpunt! Ze hebben er handige folders en boekjes, en ook warme en koude drankjes, zelfgebakken cake en lekkere biertjes. Gastvrije uitbaters. Wij liepen de 3-grenzen natuurwandeling van 7,5 km (langs de drie gemeentegrenzen hier, en het Bootjesven met watervogels; halverwege ook drankjes en hoeve-ijs bij Vaneleke). Je kunt soms ook het gevangenismuseum Merksplas bezoeken.
