What to do and see in Honolulu, Hawaii (HI): The Best Self-Guided Tours & Rentals

June 23, 2021 Janette Largent

The mere mention of Hawaii is enough to prompt visions of grass skirts and colorful cocktails with tiny umbrellas. While you will find some kitsch in Honolulu, you’ll also find art museums, bike paths, and some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Popular Waikiki Beach has soft sands and great surf. For majestic Oahu views scramble to the top of Diamond Head – a 350-acre volcanic crater. Historic structures like Iolani Palace and Ali'iolani Hale are worth a visit on a non-beach day.

Our Instructors were very helpful and made it very easy and fun to learn how to surf. We had an absolute blast out there with those guys. One thing I can’t stress enough is to watch your feet on the reef. I got cut and scraped up a bit from stepping too hard on the reef. Try not to put your feet down there if you can help it. Overall, a real highlight of our stay on Oahu!

Although the tour guide was a very pleasant and nice man, instructions from the tour guide weren’t clear and the mini coach was HOT on the way back like seriously luke warm air was blowing from the AC vents The venues themselves were nice. Enjoyed seeing the Mighty Mo, the submarine, and of course the Arizona although it was very sobering as expected. There was a food truck at the Arizona exhibit and the food was not impressive. Skimpy pulled pork nachos with not much flavor. Also on the trip to the Queen’s palace we were not aware it was the courthouse, not the palace, until basically the time it was time to leave. Tour guide was not clear.

What a super fun experience! Everyone was really friendly, from the ticket agent to the activities director on the floating island to the boat transfer operator to the crew on the parasailing ship. The views were spectacular, and we were lifted and brought back down uber gently. Loved that we got splashed a few times in the ocean as we were lifted back up into the air. We would definitely participate in H2O Sports' other water activities like jet skiing or banana boating.
