Rice NW Museum of Rocks and Minerals

The Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals houses a world-class collection recognized as the finest in the Pacific Northwest and one of the best in the nation. Located just west of Portland, Oregon, in Hillsboro, the Museum showcases not only fine rocks and minerals, but also fossils, meteorites, lapidary art, and gemstones from both the Pacific Northwest and all around the world.

Nice meteor collection with detailed explanations.

Rocks I've never seen before in many interesting color combinations.

Many large items.

I was pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of the collection, because the museum is not in a major city.

I spent 45 minutes at the museum and saw and read enough to satisfy me.

We played the South Course in mid-September with a tee time of 8:24AM.

Beware, if you need to warm up at the practice tee, you'll be hitting directly into the sun. You'll be doing so as well on the first tee. The starter told me my ball landed just off the fairway in the right rough. The ball could not be found. This happened one more time, yet the rough wasn't that deep. Keep your eye one the ball if you can! They seem to disappear more easily than expected. I believe the more expensive your ball, the more likely it will become lost.

Helpful staff and nicely appointed clubhouse.

Play well!

Walking trails surrounded by mature trees in the heart of Beaverton. Easy to get to via Car or the Max line. There is free parking, as well as a small learning center, bathrooms, and water fountain. The trails are easily walkable and strollers would do okay. The paths are clearly marked and there are a couple of benches you can sit at along the paths. We have always felt safe here, even when we come solo.

Regal Cinemas Movies on TV Stadium 16

We live pretty close to this theater so it is a "go to" for us. We have seen every kind of movie at this theater but I appreciate that they often have the limited run type including ones from LDS (Mormon) directors. We just saw last night "Once I Was a Beehive" which is a take on the summer tradition of Girl's Camp; a week long adventure that takes a year to prepare. My wife was camp director the last several years (felt like decades) and she organized her assistant directors and their families to go to this movie. We had a great time!

This is a big theater and when it is busy there is a lot going on. I like that they have a covered area to stand under while you wait to buy tickets and the staff is always nice. We have known several kids who have worked there.

If you have been to a Regal Cinema before then you know what to expect and this one is above average.

Roloff Farms

Reviewed By Nyllie - Eugene, Oregon

Visited Roloff farms on a Sunday during pumpkin season. I got there as it opened, and it wasn't overly crowded. Unless you have young kids, I would purchase the $10 wagon tour and not add on the adventure zone.

There were a few food trucks parked on site. Choices consisted of Mexican, gourmet popcorn, churros, coffee, and a place selling something called a "fry brick," which was a freaky mound of fries shaped like the rectangle in which it was fried. There were covered areas to eat, but they were filled with bees and I actually got stung while eating. It looked like they had several bee traps out, but there were still tons of bees everywhere, which is really dangerous for people with bee allergies.

The first wagon tour I went on was led by a lousy guide, so I went on a second with farmhand Sage. He was really entertaining, and provided great information about the farm. If you sit on the "passenger" side of the wagon, you'll be on a better side for photos. You'll see most everything portrayed on TV, and it was a neat experience.

There were Roloff family members there, and they seemed very involved. I was able to get photos with some of them, and their responses ranged from mildly annoyed to gracious and polite. It was still a real highlight to see them in person and have a quick conversation, and it definitely made the trip to the farm worthwhile.

There were several items for sale in their gift shop, including pumpkin butter, salsa, t-shirts, sweatshirts, Matt's children's book, water bottles, tote bags, and coffee mugs. Some of the items looked cheap, but the employees were polite and cheerful, and I happily bought some food products.

Brought our Canadian friends here to see the "Eagle's Nest" on a frigid January day. But still worth the trip to snoop around the "Educational Center". Did go outside and spotted a "Bushtit" nest which was incredible. Also the hummingbird nest on display will blow your mind. Staff tell us they will be adding new/more items in the center this coming summer. Due to temps we were unable to walk the paths, but will return some day for that.

My first visit I sat on the courthouse steps and watched. Someone was playing music and several guys in cartoon hero costumes came out. Children crowded around them for pictures. After watching for a bit I walked down the street to see the booths. There is a nice bit of variety. I bought a flat of blue berries from one vendor. Another vendor had all sorts of vegetables to choose from. I go back weekly to get fresh greens. They have a number of eating choices and booths that sell craft items. Several flower booths to choose from as well. The flowers are $10 - $20 a bunch. The $10 are a very good size. The lilies I got lasted 2 weeks. Definitely a place to visit from time to time.
