Ammersee

The weather was wonderful (29 and sunny). Everyone was wearing swimsuit and enjoying that weather. There are places for drinking, eating and just sitting down to enjoy the calm, breeze and sun.
I really recommend this place if the weather is good. However, bring towel and all like if you go to the beach otherwise it is quite uncomfortable to sit on the grass/stones.

You park in a large parking lot at the base of teh hill and start climbing your way up a steep hill, passing a playground, playful wood sculptures of people enjoying beers and a restaurant before reaching the monastery(on the right) and overlook(to the left). The Monastery is impressive with it's baroque charm but the views are more impressive to me. Be sure to make your way to the Braustuberl to sample a few beers and enjoy some food. this is worth the drive here just for the scenic country side you drive through and the oak lined road you drive down.

There are several 'Ship Ferries' that crisscross several Lakes in Bavaria ie: Starnberger See, Tegernsee, Konigsee, and our favorite...Ammessee. There are several routes, and roundtrips...and a quick look at their website will give current departure, arrival points and times, plus prices. We also found this information posted on the wharf where we departed.
We started our day tour on the short ride, from Utting to Herrsching (5,20euro, payable exact change, when stepping onto the boat) on the Ammersee Ferry. Then we caught the S-Bahn train to Munich from Herrsching for a day of sightseeing. They were 'On Time', and we had no problem catching our train. During our crossing, they offered coffee, beer, & wurst for a quick snack while boating.
Enjoyed being on the 'see' on a beautiful day...and you can see the amazing Alps to the south...in glorious panoramic beauty.

St. Ottilien

Reviewed By Steven M - Sydney, Australia

Returning to Munich with a friend we decided to take the turn-off for the Abbey of St Ottilien. My friend is from Munich, but she had never been here before. Visiting one of the historic Klosters is quite common in this part of Germany. We were hungry and my friend knew from experience that the Abbey would probably have a small restaurant, perhaps even a beer garden. We were both so happy we took the detour. There was certainly a restaurant, with good hearty Bavarian food and an outdoor beer garden. There was also a shop, selling books, religious objects and foods and produce made in monasteries throughout Germany. But what most impressed us was the lovely Abbey church. Built in the early 20th century in the neo-gothic style, it has many fine art nouveau and art deco features. This community of monks is a missionary congregation and has strong links with Africa and Asia. Their Mission museum is very interesting, as is also their museum on the history of the sewing machine!

Beautiful lake with several wooden pontoons (Stege) & steps to make it easier getting into the water or jump in for an instant gratification. Lovely recreational area with green meadows to accommodate the exodus of heatwave stricken Muncheners. Large oak trees offering shade to those who want to avoid the scorching sun.
A kiosk to buy soothing Radler, beer, imbiss and that ever satisfying ice cream on a hot day. Parking area fills in quickly, but one can always find a spot on the forest path.
Worthsee is part of a cluster of 5 Ammerseen(Lakes), near Herrsching,
Approx.35 km from Munich.
