Boutique family winery. Organic wines and olive oil. Tour and tasting. Very very nice view. Visiting times. April-October 11.00-19.00 every day

This is the second time we visited this lovely family owned winery and once again we enjoyed a warm welcome from Yannis and his son who walked us through tasting all their delicious wines and Olive Oil. Of course we had to buy as much as we could fit into our suitcase as the wines were just too tasty not to take them with you - so if you go, be prepared with some space in your suitcase. I believe they ship as well and started working with more distributors, so there is hope we can get their tasty wines in the UK in future as well. Regardless of this, that place is always worth a visit as it has lovely views, a nice atmosphere and the wine always tastes best when enjoyed at its source. Thank you so much for having us this year and we will be back again for sure!

The winery is open to visitors all year round (after appointment). The visitors' wine experience starts even before arriving at the winery, as the route and the surrounded landscape is filled with images that emphasize the viticulturist character of the region. The tour starts from the production areas of the winery, continues at the cellar and ends at the tasting room where the guest then has the opportunity to taste our wines. Please contact earlier to inform us about your visit for wine tasting (via booking form/phone/email). There is a tasting fee of 8-12€ per person. Opening hours: Monday-Friday, 10:00-15:30, after appointment.

My sister and I went to the winery for the tour and tasting in September 2020. Guys were harvesting at that time, so we were lucky to witness some production processes like grape crushing :D The nice lady guide took us through the the place explaining how the wine is made from A to Z. We ended in the tasting room and the wine was delish) Refreshing whites, mouthwatering reds, absolutely Devine desert wines... People, go there and try it yourself! ) I regret we didn’t take home a bottle of Helios ( Was looking for it at the airport with no luck Anyhow, the Alargo Syrah we tried at the winery made a safe trip to London and is waiting for a special occasion to make it even more special Thank you, Douloufakis Winery!

Thanks to Nicky Paterianaki for taking the time to conduct a wine tasting and tell us the history of this family owned winery now run by a generation of daughters. Beautiful setting for the tasting and great to learn about the indigenous varieties in this PDO region. Kudos for producing such fine organic wines and taking care of the environment.

This is a relatively small, new organic winery located on a beautiful hilltop overlooking Houdetsi and the surrounding countryside. The winemaker, a husband and wife, were both trained in Bordeaux. The wines are varied (white, rose and red) and as interesting as one can find in this region.

Diamantakis Winery

DIAMANTAKIS winery was founded in 2007 by the family members of Nicholaos G. Diamantakis: Ioannis, Michalis and Zacharias. The first two ones are third-generation vine-growers who have extensive experience in viticulture and are in charge of the winery’s vineyards; whereas Zacharias, having studied oenology, is involved in the process of winemaking and promoting the wine. Winery is a new, modern producer of quality wines in Crete. It is located southwest of the city of Heraklion in the heart of the province Malevizi, outside the village of Kato Asites and the historic Monastery of St. George Gorgolaini, in the eastern foothills of Psiloritis at an altitude of 450 meters, a region with a long history in vine cultivation and the production of wines and spirits.

This is not a fancy, schmancy California winery but a family owned establishment that welcomes you with open arms and produces some great wines in an area with incredible views. Met with one of the brothers, Zacharias, and he turned us over to Nancy who took us on the tour and tasting. She is very knowledgeable and personable and also showed us where they distill their own raki (only for employee consumption however). If you have not had raki it is distilled from grape skins and tastes like Kentucky moonshine (my opinion). There was no charge for our tasting and we found out that we could get most of the wines we enjoyed locally in the states at a store owned by a fellow gentleman whose family also lives in Crete. Four of the six wines we will definitely be buying and sharing.
