What to do and see in Healdsburg, California (CA): The Best Free Things to do

June 27, 2021 Tonie Szymanski

Beautiful Northern California has many fabulous destinations, and the town of Healdsburg in Sonoma County is at the top of the list. Small town charm, beautiful landscapes and outstanding weather are just a few of the trademark qualities that make Healdsburg so popular. Healdsburg combines five-star cuisine, rolling hills and world-acclaimed wine growing appellations for an experience you will never forget. If you love the vibrant outdoors and colorful festivals, you will love Healdsburg. In April, you can help harvest roses and distill them into fragrant rose oil and rosewater as part of the Classic Perfume Rose Harvest & Distillation Tours. An annual sea food dinner at the Healdsburg Fire Department is also in April. From February to June, enjoy the "Russian River Good Old Days" exhibit at the Healdsburg Museum. And on the first Friday of the month, Williamson Wines sponsors an Epicurean Dinner at the Dry Creek Kitchen at Hotel Healdsburg.

It's always a spectacular time at AVV! The combination of a great variety of solid Alexander Valley wines to try (love the Redemption and the Cyrus), idyllic, quiet country scenery, and really really nice people make it top shelf. The property is beautiful, picnic tables make it a great place for a snack mid-day, and the wine-cave tour is really cool if you get the chance. You will be coming back for more!

My family has always loved coming to Williamson wines. Whenever we visit, we feel like we're family here. The staff is so incredibly friendly and funny. The food and wine pairings are also fantastic. The truffle salt on cheese pairing is probably my number one fave. I highly recommend a visit if you're ever in the Healdsburg area.

Hafner Vineyard

We are a small family winery in Sonoma County's Alexander Valley outside of Healdsburg. For 30 years we have been making Cabernet Sauvignon & Chardonnay from grapes grown at our winery. Recently we began making a Malbec-based blend & Rose. Our wines are sold directly to our patrons & top California restaurants. Not in any stores. We are small & intend to remain that way. We take pride in our wines & the service we give our patrons. Please visit our website or contact us to make arrangements to visit. Tours of the vineyard and winery with tastings in the caves are given by a member of the Hafner family. Visiting a small winery, off the beaten track, can be a great experience. That's why we have reserved two times each month for our visitors: at 2pm. on the first and third Friday of each month. We are also open at a few other times by appointment. Please contact us in advance to make arrangements. We look forward to having you taste our wines whether here at the winery or in your own home .

This was my favorite winery of the 10 we visited in the area. Both Cabernet and Chardonnay are awesome! It was a very informative tour. I highly recommend this place.

This tasting room was recommended by a friend who lives nearby. Very friendly welcome and the tasting was full of excellent wine with a good explanation. So good that our group bought a bunch of bottles. Very pretty area.

This hidden winery was up for sale the last time I visited. Currently growing on 16 of 42 acres, you have lots of flexibility. Came with a house, tasting room, livestock, and more. I believe they have bands in the summer. This is a find if you're in the market to buy a vineyard!
