Part of the Fort Hays State University, the museum is dedicated to collecting and preserving plant and animal specimens pertaining to the Great Plains.
Our car broke down outside of Hays, KS. We found ourselves stranded in Hays for 3 days. It is a small town but this museum is fantastic. They have live exhibits, animatronic dinosaurs, tortoises, lots of fossils, luminescent minerals, etc. We strongly recommend this museum.

Four original buildings from the frontier days of Fort Hays.
We have lived in Hays for a long time. It's been many years since we had visited Fort Hays. We had family back and went to visit. I had forgotten how historical it was. They had added many exhibits since we had been there. A great place to relive our heritage.

The Ellis Co. Historical Society Museum is well worth a visit. There are excellent displays of early Hays City. They have good photographs and artifacts from the early pioneer days including much from the Volga German heritage that predominates in the Hays, Kansas area. This is a must for western history buffs.

After WW2 France sent boxcars loaded with gifts to each of 49 US States. The Kansas boxcar is located at the American Legion in Hays, KS. On the Hays Visitor Information website, we found a phone number to call if you wanted to see the boxcar. The gentleman who answered the phone told us to just call when we were about a hour out of town and he would meet us there. We did that and spent an hour with him learning the history of the merci boxcars in general and the history of the Kansas boxcar. The American Legion has turned the inside of this boxcar into a small museum and we were invited inside to take a look. We thoroughly enjoyed this...something you don't get to see every day and a slice of American history. It is free to 'tour' the boxcar, but donations are gladly accepted. Definitely something I would recommend!

We had a awesome walk through here. The lady working was friendly and helpful. They had plenty of parking and two! buildings to browse. My husband also found a man cave booth with lots of men's items reasonably priced.

We went as a group for a business event. Bought the $125 online VIP pass instead of the $25 ticket. When we emailed about what the VIP price included we received NO response. This was my first clue we were being ripped off. When we arrived for the 6:15 pm meet and greet with the artist (the only thing the VIP pass included), we were lead inside and told to make a circle around to the second entrance (could have just stood in the lobby where meet and greet took place-there were 10 of us total). After the meet and greet the artist commented that the first act started at 8:30 pm. Over 2 hours from meet and greet to opening act! We decided since we were there we would get drinks at the bar. We were told they could only serve us if we had a credit card because they didn't have any cash and the bar was not ready to open yet. While getting drinks at the bar, One person in our group asked a staff member what we were to do for two hours. He was very upfront with the staff member that this was our first time there and inquired as to whether we should go sit down or was there a place for the VIP guests. We were told no that we could go into standing room only after paying $125 for VIP tickets each (6 in our group) or we could pay an additional $10 per person to sit in the balcony seating. There was nothing else for the VIP package. We paid the additional $10 per person and went upstairs to enjoy our drinks. Later we found out that the headliner went outside and did a meet and greet with all the guests who were standing out front and the other people sitting in the balcony paid $35 total for their tickets to sit there. You do the math but VIP tickets at this venue are a rip off! I will give kudos that the bar was clean, the restrooms were clean, and the bands that played that night work great. If the gentleman who talked to the person in our group is the manager of the facility we will not be returning due to the way he responded to our inquiries that night in front of our guests. Very disappointed in this first experience.

It's unfortunate the manager of the Mall charges way too much for rent that the Mall cannot keep any good tenants. Several stores have left and built a store in their own due to this. Imperial Gardens Chinese food is here and best in town. I hope they don't chase Maurice's out, but I'm sure it's bound to happen.
