Koke'e Mountains

Mountains on Kauai that offer many hiking trails.

Reviewed By briangBaildon - Queensbury, United Kingdom

Continue driving up from Waimea canyon to the end of the road and look down on the Na Pali coast 4000 feet below. There is a dirt track to the right of the official lookout which is worth a short walk to get better views down to the coast and back to Walaleale

Haleakala Crater

A dormant volcano measuring 10,000 feet above sea level, it is Maui's highest point.

Reviewed By waynemQ1946NK - Chester, United States

Although you have to wake up very early to make it to the top of the crater to watch the sun rise above the clouds, this is a must do- once in a lifetime opportunity. Well, maybe you can go more than once in your lifetime... It is amazing once you realize that you are above the clouds and then to see the beautiful colors as the sun rises up. It is cold, but you will survive with a sweatshirt.

Mauna Kea Summit

At 13,796 feet, this peak offers an incredible view of lava, desert, the valley and Mauna Loa.

An amazing visit to the summit of Mauna Kea and the evening was clear as a a bell - enough to be able to see Maui! Knowledgeable guide showed and explained the various observatories located at the summit. It was cold but, the gear they provide was more than adequate. After dark explanation and location of common stars in the night skies was super! Loved every minute!

Mauna Kea

Reviewed By Laura_Pandora - Minato, Japan

We almost didn't get to visit because of the protests but thankfully the access road reopened a couple of days before our arrival. The drive up to the visitor center poses no challenge. The road to the summit was closed that day because of (apparently) inclement weather conditions but we didn't have a 4WD anyway so it wasn't a big loss. Once you're at visitor center level, you absolutely need to climb the rocky outcrop across it or you'll be missing all the sights. It's a relatively easy hike and the (daytime) views from up there are magical.

Kohala Mountain Range

Reviewed By cindyhY8792QU - Alameda, United States

We followed along with a driving app that took us up on the mountain range. It talked about how you could chose to buy property at the bottom of the ridge or up at the top depending on the different climate you wanted to live in. They said that this part of the island didn't get as much rain as other parts especially close to the shoreline but as we went up on top, there were expansive views of rolling green hills and horses out in the pasture. The change of the climate as the clouds rolled by was stunning. In fact, as we got down from the mountain and headed to the coast, we came across a most gorgeous rainbow.
