Hortus Haren is one of the oldest and largest botanical gardens in the Netherlands. The Chinese garden is unique in Europe and is designed by a famous Chinese landscape architect. You can walk behind the waterfall and smell the great fragrances of the plants. The Laarman garden has many plants which are nominated in the endangered species lists and is part of the National Plant Collection. In the Celtic garden you can look for your birthday tree. Children can do a scavenger hunt or climb the rock garden. There are frequently exhibitions of paintings and sculptures. New are the Hondsrug garden (which is part of the UNESCO Park The Hondsrug) and the 4000m2 butterfly and bee's garden. During your visit you can have a lunch in the Grand Cafe The Plantage, the Hortus Café or the Chinese Teahouse and there is a very great gift and Plants shop.
