We have been here many times, but never in March. It was cold, but warmish In the sun outside. We sipped wine and admired how beautiful the sky was and vowed to come back again in late April or early May to enjoy fine wine and company.

Ponquogue Beach

Reviewed By stringali - Hampton Bays, New York

Ppnquogue beach is such a beautiful beach that is open ask year round. Access is free during the off season (after labor day and before memorial day) you will need a pass to enter during the peak months. Passes are available at the booth or at the town, discount to residents of Southampton.

The sand is very clean and offers much space to place a blanket and hang out with friends or family. Life guards are on duty during the summer months until 5pm. They also offer concessions and restrooms too.

It's a beautiful place and a nice ride and view from the ponquogue bridge.

Quogue Wildlife Refuge

Reviewed By LongIslandMabel - Long Island

I thought I was well informed about the opportunities to explore nature on Long Island but the Quogue Wildlife Refuge was not on my radar. When I joined the Sierra Club for a hike in this beautiful park, it was a wonderful surprise. With miles of trails, there is a trail for every level of hiker--1 mile, 3 miles or 7 miles with clear markings to keep you from getting lost. The welcome/nature center is lovely with some of the local turtles and other animals on view plus a modern bathroom. A big picture window affords a view of the large pond that was originally dug as an ice pond when people's refrigeration depended on keeping large blocks of ice. A little ice house museum displays some of those early tools. The next stop before beginning the trails is an outdoor caged area where several animals are kept--they've all been injured and successfully treated but are unable to be released to be on their own. To see the beautiful Barred Owl, the adorable Barn Owl and a majestic Eagle in addition to several other rescues up close is a real treat. A variety of trees and bushes and other plants are part of the forested area and the wide, clear trails also skirt the ponds and creeks that provide views of ducks and turtles. Lots of activities are available for families with children and this is a very worthwhile site for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

Loved the beach!!! Only 4 people as far as we could see up and down the Beach!!! Off season (not summer) no permit needed to park. To drive 4 wheel drive on beach a permit is required all year. The beach is our happy place and this did not disappoint!! Loves the glittery smooth sea rocks washed ashore.

Great place to visit especially with children. A bit pricey so take advantage of any discounts they may offer ie AAA, AARP, Senior Thursday etc. Sea lion, penguin, and otter shows. Colorful and well maintained tanks from small fish to sharks. Great Butterfly house and bird aviary. Worthwhile entertainment. Parking is plentiful but does require walking a few blocks to reach parking lots.

Clovis Point

Reviewed By DelMarVaJohn - Dover, Delaware

This winery specializes in very dry, French-style wines with prices that reflect that. Was attracted by the name: "Clovis point" is term given to the stone spear points used by the Native American Paleo-hunters who lived in this region about 10,000 to 16,000 years ago. Apparently no such points were found on the winery property, but a site from that era is located nearby. In any case, the wine my friend and I tried on a Friday afternoon were very dry as expected, but not really to our liking, especially given the $30 to $40 a bottle price range.

Meschutt Beach

Reviewed By Allen S - Hampton Bays, New York

The sand is clean, the water is warm, and calm. Great beach for young families. The concession stand is one of the Beach Hut chain of concessions. It features a nice pub style menu with seafood and other grilled and fried favorites. it also, has a full service Bar serving your favorite adult beverages. Typically they have a live band in the evenings from approx. 4pm to 10pm The only drawback is that the drink prices are rather high and they do not accept any credit cards, Cash Only! So be prepared.
