Best visited in summertime, but the locals use it all year. The main house is the museum with a lot of old weapons, stuffed wild game and antique paintings and furniture.
The park was created using ships ballast brought home from England after shipping planks etc over there. You find varous trees, bushes flowers like roses and more as well as paths and walkways. Well worth a relaxing visit.
There is also a cafe on the premises, Herregårdskafeen, where they quite freqvently arrange conserts and art exibitions.

Small, what we may call "brown pub" - which means that this is a place that has been in operation for a lot of years, and it looks better in the evening than in the morning. Plenty of atmosphere, though. The basic lager, ale and stout types are available on tap. It's a smallish place, Seating for about 30 guests. What is special is that they often have live music, and you might find combinations of good local musicians and well known US artists. - reason for this being that Athletic sound studios in Halden is often used by US musicians.

The Busterud Park

This park was established about a hundred years ago on grounds that were previously occupied by the Nordsiden churchyard and Christian's Church. The lovely old band stand was completed in 1879. The band stand is often used in the summer by, amongst others, the military band. The sculptor Dyre Vaa created the monument in the park. This was erected in 1939 in gratitude to the composers F.A. Reissiger and Oscar Borg for their efforts to promote the local musical life in Halden.

Then this is the secure way to do it. Situated in the cellars below Halden old jail and police station you find a bar and local brewery that will widen your thoughts about beer significantly. The brewer is slightly mad, and that is definitely to your advantage, giving you the oportunity to sample Halden Jail (ale) several IPA- types, stouts, bitters, Smårips (small redcurrant , but could also mean young ladies) Yes, the brew is partly based on redcurrants - and smuggler (we´ re close to the Swedish border here). Besides what they brew themselves, they also change barrels with other small-scale Breweries. If you are looking for Budwiser, go somewhere eles.
On arrival ask for a sampler, then use that experience to treat your tastebuds to more of the excellent variety of tastes. Quizes on wednesdays, often live music and in the summer you may enjoy music and beer outside in the yard.
