Hagi Uragami Museum

I enjoyed the museum. It is filled with modern ceramic art in the permanent exhibit. Only cost 300 yen. There are also an exhibit showing how wood block prints are carved and colored. There is some detailed prints showing how a maiden would live and the arts she would do all of her free time. There is also really exquisite lacquerware. I didn’t see the traveling exhibit that was held in three other halls. That was 1100 yen.

The reason why I travelled to Yamaguchi Prefecture was so that I could visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site. And it was definitely worth it! The buildings and monuments within the old castle town is beautiful and well worth a walk along the old streets while taking in the history of it all.

Ruins of Hagi Castle

Reviewed By ns149 - Toronto, Canada

The main castle building is long ago gone. But the moat, main ramparts and essential layout are still there. Now it as much a spectacular historical park as a it is a castle. A very peaceful place to wander around. Beautifully maintained. Be sure to do the hike to the ruins/defenses on the top of Mt Shizuki (a "National Treasure" of Japan) just 750 metres each way. Also take in the shrine and the east garden. All round a real gem.
